What really happened to Messenger??

^Ish helps us with the tech stuff, that means he has to be a tech admin which means he can see and post in all of the forums. He was invited and accepted but we didn't have to change his user group.

No one else (that is not on the list) except Partsking/Blade can see this forum. It was briefly visible to the old trolls group when I was trying to set that up, which is why SB was able to start a thread in here.

Now that is more info than you guys usually get from me, but since this is a hidden invite only forum, there has to be an understood level of privacy for whats posted in here.

OMG CLASSIFIED INFORMATION LEAK

Partsking, the TBBS mod?

Sorry, you might file this away in the 'old habits die hard' file, but I don't really like the fact that a TBBS mod can see what happens in a "secret" TK forum. Even if we aren't actively doing anything there anymore

It's not an issue at all. Steve is one of the most down-to-earth and easy going guys I've ever met on the net. He really is above the petty interboard politics. Plus, he owns and runs LoNAF which is one of the few (only) boards that TK has not even a the slightest vendetta with. He was far and away the best option to fill the tech admin job. Same with Ishcabittle.

Fuck. Can we get a super super secret sub-forum to go over our plans to destroy Lonaf?

I'll say this much about the current techies here: the fucking board works.

I haven't seen or experienced a single glitch since...oh... since Hambil was techie. You remember that nightmare, don't you?

So, kudos to the techs.

Think it's time to set up a chatroom again?

If the techies can figure out an integrated one that works with the board software, I'm game.

I got lots of complaints about the other one when I ran it, about people not being able to log on. Less complaints about the integrated one, but of course I wasn't running that one.

And no jillianesq bots, thank you.

Just to let you know, CU, TV stopped attacking TK ..... "that way"... back then. Your problems cleared up appreciably when we ceased.

Of course... that all could have been coincidental, so maybe I don't really know what I'm talking about, right? :P

Probably not.

Only because this is the first time I've been "outed" as a tech admin, I just wanted to be clear on my responsibilities:

I run the weekly backup via a cron script established by Blade, and handle any of the minor technical glitches users experience (password resets, IP blocks, etc.). As I've been more of the hidden tech guy, I don't often make my presence known and I don't really mess with the board software.

As CU said, it's already working, there's not a great need to jerk around with it.

I have a couple of problems with a chatroom thats integrated into the board. Because it's part of the board, everything said in it gets logged in the database, which means if the purpose of having the chatroom is to talk about more sensitive things (or anything that could be considered illegal), the purpose is defeated.

Also, it creates another way for hackers to exploit a weakness. And Cranky would have to confirm this part.... possibly another opening for DOS. Should I send out the bat-signal for our naughty friend Yo. ?

The feature isn't necessarily a weakness for DOS attack - much to the contrary, it is only suited to attacks that exploit its particular weaknesses, not those of the host or forum software.

For example, a chat feature that allows smilies or images can be exploited to jam the feature, but I don't think it can be used to bring the site down (or interrupt its service).

Hmm, yes, the more I think about it, only the feature could be attacked of itself and the site itself would be unaffected. Unless of course there was some shitty software for the feature that borrowed cache features for the site. That would only be a temporary problem, though, with a click-fix whenever it "overflowed."

Maybe avoid getting a chat feature designed in China. :P

A DOS attack really attacks the host server and not so much the content of the site. ;)

I guess since there's no more Bridge, I don't need to bother keeping my promise not to talk about it.

....

Oh well, there wasn't anything to talk about regarding it anyway.
