Where is the Random Thread of Randomness stuff that doesn't belong in other threads thread?

I think my favorite Windows 11 feature is how, when you put your laptop to sleep, is how unless you keep your mouse PERFECTLY STILL while clicking the button, the computer immediately wakes back up--and you have to log on if you want to try again.

I sort of miss Old Testament God. Sure, he was a dick and did things like ruin your life to win a bet with Satan or tell you to sacrifice your only son as a practical joke, but at least he was up-front about things: "DO WHAT I TELL YOU OR I'M SENDING YOU ALL INTO SLAVERY."

New Testament God won't say shit to anyone. His own son is like "Daddy? I don't want to be tortured to death. Is that OK? Daddy? Hello?" Nothing.

I've been miserable for around a year now--probably more--as my plan hasn't worked out and I've gotten roped into things I didn't want to do and thought were bad ideas. At some point I finally went "You know what? Fuck it. I guess there's some kind of plan here. I'm just going to stop fighting and go with it" and things have actually been working out for the past week or so.

I really shouldn't complain, but my plan was pretty good and the plan I'm following now seems pretty stupid, and it annoys me the stupid plan I don't want to do is working while the good, simple plan I've been working on for years shit its pants.

And then there's fucking Google. Oh, wait. We'll get more M$ out of the way first: I've had Hotmail for...forever. Free online e-mail that you didn't have to change your address every time you moved (because in Olden Dayes when you moved you got a new phone number so you often needed a new ISP for your modem--which meant your old ISP-provided e-mail didn't work anymore). And I remember it being great. You could easily connect it to Outlook. Or Thunderbird. And have a fully-functioning seamless, powerful e-mail. Of course then you wouldn't see any ads so when M$ got it they took care of that. But even the Web interface...a couple years ago I looked up "Hotmail 1999" or something and damn, it's actually a powerful, useful interface instead of the garbage it has become.

Which actually brings me back to my other point. Fucking Google. I've got a variable rate loan and idiot Jerome Powell has been making some rumblings that he may, grudgingly, finally lower the Fed rate in September. OK. Fine. Great. It's September. So when? How long do I have to wait? So I Google "Fed September rate meeting". Now in 1999 that would've INSTANTLY answered my question. But shitty 2025 Google, I had to scroll through about a dozen useless links before finding one that, after looking at it closely, appeared to tell me what I wanted to know.

Why is 2025 so much shittier than 1999? You darn kids, with your MySpace and your Angry Birds.

Why do American call fish fingers "fish sticks" but they do say "chicken fingers"? Don't say it's because fish don't have fingers, BECAUSE CHICKENS DON'T EITHER.
