Where is the Random Thread of Randomness stuff that doesn't belong in other threads thread?

...although as late as...1999?--"Austin Powers 2"--you still probably could. That said, it's almost as IP infringement-worthy as that...chili? sloppy joe?...commercial that got Clara "Where's the beef!?" Peller fired by Wendy's.
Yeah Verne Troyer was the last one people could laugh at (other than those Little Housewives from reality TV). It became un-PC after Peter Dinklage started getting awards buzz for The Station Agent in the early 2000s. And then of course GoT... meanwhile Warwick Davis was there the whole time, building a legendary career over decades...

That moment when you meet another English couple on holiday, and then you quickly realise they are reform voters.

I am ignoring all the bad news in the world and watching World Cup fans having fun.

This was the scene in KC last Thursday, as 36000 Netherlands fans descended on downtown before the match.

I love how all these places in the US have allowed them to have fun and most have joined in.

This heat has me whipped today. I've said I won't complain about heat (because I complain about cold and if I complain about both I'm just a whiner--or Goldilocks) and technically I'm not complaining, just making an observation. And since the US/Europe AC disparity has been in the news, I'll just make an observation about that too: I grew up in 20th century NW Wisconsin. So you didn't have AC. You didn't have it in your car, you didn't have it in your house. At night you opened the windows to let the cool in and closed them (and the drapes) during the day to keep the heat out (during the week of summertime you have in NW Wisconsin). Did I run AC at home in SoCal? I don't remember. Maybe. Minimally. Then I moved to Louisville. And the heat in Louisville isn't significantly worse than in Wisconsin. Or Portland Oregon. But the humidity is. During the day it will sap your strength. And it is so high at night that your house will get moldy if you try the Wisconsin trick of opening the windows at night. So I've come over to AC. I still use it minimally. 82 in the summer (keep the heat down to 67 in the winter too). But today I've hit my limit.

Had grass that needed cutting. So I did that yesterday and the heat whipped me. Ran out of gas before I was done, so after the morning dog walk and my work, I picked up some gasoline and finished up before lunch. Fine. OK. Nap after lunch made me realize how much being out in the heat had taken out of me, but after the nap comes the afternoon dog walk, so I steeled myself for it and went out. Luckily my current dog isn't as OCD as the old one and has some common sense so she made a purely ceremonial walk of crossing the street, peeing in the ditch and then crossing back to go inside. Which is good. But now I should change to work clothes and go work on the other house. I'll almost certainly stay inside but I dread just getting to the car, driving there, and then having to eventually drive back. Shit. I guess I *am* complaining about it. Ah well, I guess I should get moving.

Oh, that's the other reason I'm procrastinating: The Dog does like coming along but there isn't really anything for her to do once we get there--especially when it is this hot. And I'd kind of like to bring a few things over, but if I do anything but quietly put on my shoes and grab my keys, she'll realize I'm leaving and want to come along. :cautious:

Bah. I actually made it out the door without alerting her. And as soon as I closed the door I realized I forgot to change clothes. When you have a dog, a lot of the time if you forget something you have to just do without because it's easier than dealing with the dog, but I decided I didn't want to ruin another change of clothes so I went back in and she came to check on me while I was changing. So now I've got to screw off a bit and hope she'll settle down again. Or just tell her she can't come along. Or just let her come along.
