DABL. DiY/home improvement channel. You know how little kids can watch "Frozen" or the Minions over and over and over again? I was like that about "Sell This House." Watching Richard and Tonya get a house staged for sale, I didn't care if I'd seen the episode 8 times or not. But the people that own the channel also own all the old UPN shows, so they can show "Martin" reruns for free. Even if no one watches them they do OK.
I do like "Pawn Stars." I know it is 95% fake, but it is like a blue collar "Antiques Roadshow". But if I've seen an ep more than once I generally won't watch it. But at least they've got enough episodes that that doesn't happen that often. And I kind of feel bittersweet when they have eps with The Old Man (RIP). Saturday dinnertime is the real nadir. After losing "Sell This House," I was able to do "Black Sheep Squadron" for a bit but it is pretty terrible and thus not really rewatchable. It was sort of fun to see how they were able to do a WWII air battle show before CGI--and how they did a passable job of it--but the plots are so horrible. Then there's "Survivorman." Just don't enjoy it as much as Bear Grhylls survival show and again, if feels like they have about 6 episodes in the syndication deal because there's never an ep I haven't seen. One channel does "Weird Earth," followed by "Deadline to Disaster," but I just can't watch "Weird Earth." It's a science phenomena show but they can't just do "Why are these weird ice balls floating at the bottom of this Canadian waterfall? Because water tends to take a spherical shape if not acted on by gravity so they freeze into spheres." Because then they'd need to have 6x as many segments for an episode. So they have to act confused by it and present other theories that they have to know are bogus: "Maybe they are eggs from an ice monster. Nope. After extensive research, there are no egg-laying ice monsters in that region of Canada. Maybe space aliens left them..." Yes, I understand the concept academically. They use the instance as a way to talk about other interesting scientific phenomena but I just can't swallow it. I sort of wish I could, because there's some interesting stuff, but I can't. Well, I should get going. I see I've almost wasted the morning and I don't have a morning to waste.
