EDIT: As too the OP's icon.....
Shut the fuck up, spic.Sarek said:Just a little HISTORICAL note here, but you're all posting on a site that was founded, established and run by a group of "Trek nerds" that were disgruntled members or banned members of Trek BBS.
And the claim that a lot of todays technology can be traced back to Star Trek is basically true. Quite a few inventors have claimed it as inspiration. Even the US military and NASA have received funding to research such things as Bio beds that render the human body transparent, cryogenic freezing for extended space flight, warp drive, transporter technology and anti-gravity.
Sarek said:Two of the contracts awarded under a Republican congress were to the Air Force to study the feasibility of both warp drive and transporter technology.
We won't even get into the free spending drunken rampage the Republicans went on the first 4 years of the Bush administration. The board members here that are pro Republican hate it when things like that are pointed out.
Conundrum said:I'm too lazy to worry about varifying your claim, but I know with a little research you can find just as many...if not more wacky expenditures signed off by politicians with a (D) after their name. Or are you one of those so blinded by partisanism that you think it's all completely one sided.
Dual said:Shut the fuck up, Armenian.
What makes it so stupid though is that all those things have been in previous sci-fi and fiction before Star Trek ever came about, and you're right it's only because there's a large fanbase for it that these wild claims get thrown about.GStone said:To get back on topic, I'd guess the reason is because Trek is so pervasive in the world.
Shut the fuck up, Anglo-Saxon.Sarek said:Wrong again. White American.
With the track record you've established so far, I have to ask. Are you and Dick (VKD) related?
Sarek said:No, asshat.
I hate all politicians as a rule of thumb and hold no party affiliation. Makes it easy to pass on the Kool-aid.
As for wacky expenditures, I'm sure you probably could. But, faced with the record deficits set by the Bush administration the last 8 years, well, there's no contest.
Conundrum said:Ahhh..the old "I'm an independant" and then you attack only one side rabidly gambit.
People didn't buy it in 04, and they aren't going to buy it in 08. Claiming to be independant doesn't add any weight to your opinions.
