World Cup Odds - 21st May 2006

Gagh

Χριστόφορος
Brazil 14/5
England 8
Germany 8.1/1
Argentina 9
Italy 19/2

Not sure about placing England so high, if Rooney isn't fit. Nobody is going to argue with Brazil, but they have history going against them. No Non-European nation has taken the title in a European country since the World Cup's inception in 1930.

Smart money is still obviously in Brazil, but I'm leaning towards a dark horse. This may be Holland's year, if they all manage to play as a team for once.

Cocked that up - Brazil won the tournment in Sweden in 1958, being the only exception to that ruke.

Rooney wil be fit. And England's team is a great contender this year. It's VERY hard to guess how the tournament will go at this stage.

Someone's stuck in the past.

They have home advantage. No host nation has ever failed to get out of their group stage. Despite Germany having a young team and not having impressed that much recently they still have players like Klose and Ballack. Besides, Group A is weak, they have a very good chance of winning their group. Ecuador, Poland and Costa Rica are not big threats to start out with.

Nobody and I mean NOBODY thought Greece would win the Euro cup. it's not all about strength of the team in competion. And home advantage goes a long way.

Don't discount Germany just because their World Cup team is a shadow of former World Cups. They have the chance to surprise.

That said, I can see hardly no chance of them actually winning the World Cup. But they might do better than expected and it's best not to under rate them.

Germany has never been spectacular and have always been efficent. Efficiency produces results. Besides, they have Michael Ballack. So yes, they are a good team. I don't know why everyone thinks they're going to be hopeless. They have the most piss easy group to win as well. Ballack is a good captain and commands the midfield and rallys players well.

And I've outlined the reasons why they have good odds besides those facts.

I didn't say you didn't ... quite the contrary ... period.

The hosts always have good odds, because there is a good history of the hosts having good runs in the tournament. Germany will fight, but I am mistyfied at Klinnsman's decision to leave Kuranyi out, one of their only natural goalscorers.

??? No France????
they've always been such a pain in the - erm, force to be reckoned with....not this time?

No; much as it pains me to admit it, France has not only the brilliant Henry, but the venerable Zidane will still have something to offer, and what about Cisse, Silvestre, Makalele, Desaiily - not to mention Viera & Trezeguet, for heavens sake!?

Desailly retired ages ago ;)

France don't have the depth across the squad they had 8 years ago, I'm afraid. They will have to rely on those peeps you named there.

oops - my apologies to Desailly., apparently his absence hasn't affected me deeply!
[Was naming names off the top of my head.]

Thierry Henry's a peep???
I sense a National Prejudice here!!!
;)
