See, I'm torn here. I like the Italian team. Yet, patriotism says I've gotta root for the US. But, with the Italians putting Buffon in the goal and then feilding players like Gattuso, Totti, Pirlo, and Camoranesi, they're bound to do a good bit of damage. I'm glad that Vieri is finally sitting this out. He had his run, but now he needed to be put out to pasture like Beckham should be. Honestly, I'm shocked that England is even listing him on the roster. He hasn't been a good forward for years. I remember watching him ruin goal attempt after goal attempt at the Euro '04. I'm glad they're putting him mid feild. Otherwise it'd be quite embarrassing for England.
I'm pretty surprised that the US isn't higher in the standings, as the odds go. They've got a surprisingly good (yet experimental) team. Mc Bride, Donnovan, and Lewis are great players. Then there's Johnson. He's green when it comes to international caps. However, the world cup always brings out the sleepers. I look forward to his performance. Of course, let's not forget Keller. He may be old, but he's got over 40 clean sheets under his belt. Those clean sheets account for over half of his international caps. Certainly the US has a great defense, but I worry that won't be enough vs forwards from seasoned international teams like Brazil, Italy, and Germany.
