Starfleet Academy - It's Happening

Looks like they were going for a vibe like the TNG episode "Family" after BOBW (Miyazaki), to give us more background on the cadets. With a little Breakfast Club thrown in.

Not much meat on the bone story-wise. Cocky guy was gonna be Prince Philip but nah. Gay Klingon boy is gay. Tarima better recover quick or Caleb & Genesis may start canoodling and then feeling guilty about it for a whole season.

I find I enjoy this show more when I forget it's a Trek show.

It was a little dull, especially compared to last week.

I feel like they tried to let us get to know the characters without really telling us much about them.

Eggs post makes me think that the affair will happen, then she'll come back like Carrie wrecking the place.

It's not like he can hide an affair from the girl that reads minds.

It was an ok episode.

Apparently breaking into the bridge does not get much of a punishment.

Also @CaptainWacky is that you over at jammersreviews or is some dastardly SOB impersonating you?

Yes, it's me, trying to give Jammer some friendly advice about not giving 3.5 stars out of 4 to an episode which was only like 50% good and definitely not half a star off perfection. I don't expect him to listen!

This honestly looks like a promo shot for some CW mid-season replacement airing on Monday nights.

Do you honestly think the douchebag who created this shot kept a straight face when he turned it in to Paramount media relations?

Our civilization is slowly crumbling. We were once a mighty civilization that produced legendary ads like the Chuck Wagon dog food commercials of the 1970s.

I think "Stardate 90210" has a catchy ring to it...

You know what else has a catchy ring? "Fucking Cancelled."

At this point, I'm convinced a documentary about masked Pakistanis shaving a chihuahua's asshole would rate higher on Paramount+ than this show.

It's getting the shit kicked out of it by Sabrina The Teenaged Witch.

You ever watch that show? Apparently enough do.

Guess what they're not watching.

The franchise that gave us "The City On The Edge of Forever," "The Inner Light," "By The Pale Moon Light" and "Through A Mirror Darkly" deep bowel shat this show out and production associates have the absolute balls to say if we don't stop review bombing the show the entire thing might get shelved for a decade or more.

Stop threatening me with a good time.

Judas Priest, I think I'm going to drive downtown and punch a random tourist.

Silly pooh bear. I bet you don't have a single tickle spot on your whole miserable body.

Oh I do. I do indeed, and it's called my cock.

But I digress.

Well JayDen is officially gay, or maybe BI.

Today is a good day to BI.
More importantly, Darem has his eye on JayDen (hence being a dick to whatever twinkboyfriend is called). That seemed to be the subtext of the episode to me. Particularly references to Darem being “best friends” with his wife to be, and her correcting him when he says he loves her, telling him he’s changed and should embrace it. We’ll see...

Otherwise, I agree with most of the points others have made in this thread (those who’ve actually been watching it). Far from the Section 31 style disaster I was expecting, it’s actually pretty good. Some great actors, good use of the theming/locale and very impressive production value. I like that each character brings their own unique skills to bear on a problem. It’s showing the value of diversity without preaching about it.
My main complaint is that the episodes tend to be a bit too long. Particularly when plots like the latest episode’s are so thin.

There are (relatively speaking) like 12 people still watching new Star Trek, and half of them are probably paid to watch it so they can find something to make ragebait youtube videos about to drive up engagement. The entire ruling class needs to be liquidated and the means of all production put in the hands of workers and citizens at large, this is the only way to prevent the long term collapse of creative enterprises.

When do I get paid for watching this show and giving it "it's okay, I suppose!" reviews? Do I have to tweet "it's okay, I suppose!" at Paramount every day?

It's okay relative to other episodes of Starfleet Academy, I guess. 3.5 / 4 stars -- Jammer

I'm not going to lie, this episode moved me , the last ten minutes especially.

I know the people that don't like it will continue to not like it, but they can fuck all the way off.

I don't think those are the people being paid to make ragebait youtube videos about it.

1.8 - Some parts were some of the best scenes they've done, and Robert Picardo got a chance to act again so that was good. I never liked that Voyager episode that much but it makes sense that it would have stuck with the Doc since he had a perfect memory. (Of course he also had a son in 'Blink of an Eye', an episode they also referenced here, but we never found out much about that.) I definitley felt moved when he decided to do what he did. I hope they do show Sam's personality changed from now on.

I'm not sure how many lines were quotes from that play, though, since I've never heard of the play and wouldn't recognise lines from it. And there's still a weirdness in general where some lines feel like they don't naturally flow from the last and feel a bit off. Like that voiceover from Picardo sounded really weird, like the director told him to be super dramatic but the stuff he was saying didn't match.

Was Jay-Den's actor ill for real so they wrote in that bit about him having a cold? Because it was a bit random otherwise.

Anyway, definitely one of the better episodes as it tried to be about something and had some of the strongest acting yet.

It was good. IMO! I'm glad the doctor gets to experience having a daughter again, and maybe this helped him with his trauma too.
