My mom died at 78 and I thought that was very young. But then again she died from "morbid obesity due to diabetic complications" so it was probably a miracle she even made it to 78.I am gutted. I saw the news earlier and I'm pretty sure I did one of those cartoon double blink and headshake maneouvers to make sure I was reading it right and then I just felt my stomach drop right after.
Shocked would be the word I guess. Similar to my reaction to poor Michelle passing. Of course her passing had the extra tragic element of her being so young but I still don't consider 72 to be ancient by any stretch. I remember watching Ted Lasso and noticing how fit, vital and handsome he still was. I just didn't see this one coming at all.
As soon as I started to see Facebook, Insta and X (spits) start to fill up with the news I had to get up from the computer and go and do some chores and get away from the screen for a while. I don't usually react this badly to celebrity passings but Buffy was and is more than just a tv show to me and Giles was just (as Wacky said) a monumentally important reason why it worked. He was fantastic.
So yeah, this one really hurts.

I met him very briefly once, and I remember how deftly and humanely he dealt with a slightly off kilter fan who was rambling and being a bit creepy tbh. He didn’t show any sign of being phased, and calmly diffused something which others might’ve reacted very differently to.
