South Carolina finishes No. 1 in season's final poll for first time

Dawn Staley and South Carolina are No. 1 in the final Associated Press women's basketball poll for the first time in school history. The Gamecocks received 26 first-place votes from the national media panel in voting released Tuesday. No. 2 Oregon garnered the other four votes. Baylor, Matyland and UConn rounded out the top five. Louisville, Stanford, NC State, Mississippi State and UCLA rounded out the first 10 teams, which were unchanged from the previous poll.

Crowning a champion in college football's 64-team playoff

Now is when it really starts to get fun. We're down to 16 teams in ESPN's fictional NCAA football tournament. We saw some upsets, clutch performances and exhilarating finishes in the first two rounds. But this is the point of the tournament when talent usually wins out ... but not always. All four No. 1 seeds are still alive: Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Alabama. Three of the No. 2 seeds are still playing: Penn State, Texas and Texas A&M. As a reminder, original seeds were based largely on ESPN's latest Football Power Index for the 2020 season. We've got some entertaining matchups ahead, so let's finish the football version of March Madness.

Duke's Tre Jones to enter NBA draft
Sophomore Jones, The ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year, is a projected first-round pick. He averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game for the Blue Devils this season. He shot 42.3% from the floor and 36.1% on 3-pointers.

No. 1 prospect Anthony Edwards of Georgia declares for NBA draft
The 6-foot-5 freshman excelled in SEC play. Edwards, a versatile shooting guard, averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Bulldogs this season.

Sabrina Ionescu is unanimous AP women's player of the year
Oregon's star guard was the unanimous choice Monday as The Associated Press women's basketball player of the year, receiving all 30 votes from the national media panel that selects the Top 25 each week during the season.

South Carolina's Dawn Staley named AP women's Coach of the Year
Staley, who has coached the Gamecocks since 2008, received 20 votes from the national media panel that selects the Top 25 poll each week. Staley became the second African American coach to win the AP award, joining Carolyn Peck, who was honored in 1999 when she coached Purdue.

The sophomore averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 70 percent from 2-point range and 39 percent from 3 for Dayton .

USC freshman Onyeka Okongwu opts to enter NBA draft
He averaged 16.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.2 steals for the Trojans, establishing himself as one of the most versatile defenders in the country and vastly exceeding early expectations.

Cartier Diarra leaving Kansas State
Diarra averaged 7.1 points per game as a freshman, when the Wildcats advanced all the way to the Elite Eight, and 6.8 points two years ago, when he helped them tie Texas Tech for the regular-season Big 12 championship.
