Dayton's Obi Toppin wins Naismith Trophy
Dayton forward Obi Toppin has been awarded the Naismith Trophy as college basketball's most outstanding player Friday.
Toppin, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, added to an award collection that includes national Player of the Year by The Associated Press. He averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 63%.He is Dayton's first consensus All-American, leading the Flyers to a school-record 29 wins as they finished No. 3 in the final AP Top 25 poll after the NCAA tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu wins women's Naismith Player of Year

Oregon s Sabrina Ionescu has added another award to her collection Already named the Associated Press, Women's Basktball Coaches Association and espnW women's player of the year, Ionescu was awarded the Naismith Trophy for the most outstanding women's basketball player on Friday. Ionescu, who earned AP All-American honors three times, shattered the NCAA career triple-double mark with 26 and became the first player in college history to have 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists. She averaged 17.5 points, 9.1 assists and 8.6 rebounds per game with eight triple-doubles as a senior this season. The Ducks finished 31-2 this season, which ended prematurely with the cancellation of the NCAA tournament because of the coronavirus pandemic.

South Carolina's Dawn Staley gets Naismith honor as top coach
South Carolina's Dawn Staley was named the Naismith women's basketball coach of the year Thursday, becoming the first person in men's or women's basketball to receive the Naismith honor as both a coach and a player. She was the Naismith player of the year for Virginia in 1991 and 1992, leading the Cavaliers to the Final Four both seasons. Staley also has won the espnW, Associated Press and WBCA coach of the year awards this season. She led the Gamecocks to a 32-1 record and the SEC regular-season and tournament titles. South Carolina's only loss came on Thanksgiving to Indiana, and the Gamecocks started three freshmen all season. South Carolina was ranked No. 1 for 10 weeks this season and finished in the top spot. Staley just finished her 12th season at South Carolina and has a career record of 305-98 along with the 2017 national championship. The Gamecocks have won the SEC tournament five of the past six years.

South Carolina's Aliyah Boston wins Leslie Award as nation's best center
Boston was the Southeastern Conference freshman and defensive player of the year. She averaged 12.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game this season while setting a South Carolina freshman mark with 86 blocked shots.

Other winners in the Naismith Starting Five announced Monday by the Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Association included Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu as the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year, Arizona's Aari McDonald as the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year, Oregon's Satou Sabally as the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year, and Oregon's Ruthy Hebard as the Katrine McClain Power Forward of the Year.

Dayton's Obi Toppin wins Wooden Award to complete sweep

Dayton forward Obi Toppin completed a magical season as the winner of the 2020 John R. Wooden Award, the award's committee announced on Tuesday. Toppin secured the award over Iowa star Luke Garza. Last week, Toppin won both the Naismith and Associated Press national player of the year awards. Toppin led Dayton to a 29-2 record during the 2019-2020 season, which ended abruptly prior to the NCAA tournament due to the coronavirus pandemic. A projected lottery pick in this summer's NBA draft, Toppin averaged 20.0 points per game, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks, while connecting on nearly 70 percent of his shots inside the 3-point line. He also made 39 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. He's projected to be the No. 9 pick in this summer's NBA draft, per ESPN's latest mock draft.

WNBA mock draft 2020 -- Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu, Satou Sabally projected to go 1-2

The New York Liberty will have the leadoff spot and are expected to select Oregon senior Sabrina Ionescu with the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft on April 17 (ESPN/ESPN App, 7 p.m. ET). But the Dallas Wings, with four picks in the first round and two in the second, might impact the draft more than any other WNBA team. The Wings have picks 2, 5, 7, 9, 15 and 21. Whether they make selections with all of those or trade some, draft day will be big for Dallas."This draft is vitally important to us," Dallas president and CEO Greg Bibb said. "What happens in this draft will set the agenda for our organization for the next decade. If we do it right, the next decade could be really good. And if we miss, then we have some problems."
