Atlantis (BBC)

It was better than the first episode, but still a bit dull and stilted. Mark Addy, the Nubian king and Alexander Siddig were the main elements that kept it worth watching. Over all the plot was very reminiscent of the "Arthur fights in a tournament but black magic is used against him" from Merlin.

I kind of liked that they at least acknowledged that the black guy was a black guy and didn't do the Merlin thing of pretending racism never existed.

Yeah. Someone referred to it as a teatime friendly version of a Spartacus episode, which is a very apt comparison. And I'm quite impressed at how realisticly they can make a grim studio in Wales look like lovely Greece.

I don't know why they don't show it at 6pm rather than the 8:30 spot. The later spot made sense for the final season of Merlin (which was more "adult"...for Merlin) but this is pure child-friendly fun.

David Icke appearing might tempt me too.

(Hannah is actually a lizard person, so technically no need for the sidekick)

Jason got outacted by a baby this week.

Hercules and Medusa are quite a bit better than the rest of the cast (well, Siddig is too but he got like two lines.)

Jason 21st century references watch: Still nothing.

GOT actors watch: Donald Sumpter (Maester Luwin) was good as the old man who changed his mind about killing the baby.

It was the kind of episode that Merlin could've got away with (and probably did at some point), but for a show that should really be establishing who its main character is, what happened to his father, why he's been thrown back to ancient Greece and how he'll get back to 2013, the addition of an adorably distracting baby wasn't ideal.

Jason's emergency somersault is basically Merlin's emergency tree branch maneuver. It really sucks the tension out of any fight scene.

Mark Addy and the baby were the only real highlights in a fairly mediocre episode.

I'm so glad they put in that subplot with the beetle!

Jason and Ariadne together is pretty bland. In fact she actually looked interesting compared to him (but isn't really.) I liked the small hints of Alexander Siddig's character having more depth but of course that took up about one minute of the episode.

So this episode was mostly an excuse to have shirtless men fighting each other. Jason being clever doesn't really ring true. The parts with bland princess and the evil stepmother was pretty good though.

One thing, I quite liked the maid character (the blonde one) who helped out the bland princess before. I thought she was actually a better actress than the bland princess. So of course they kill her in this episode. Then I find out she was played by Gemma Arterton's younger sister. So that's DOUBLE ANNOYING.

It was just an hour of boring shirtless fights that were supposed to mimic Spartacus, except that Spartacus is enjoyable.

I was just about to switch it off in frustration when the actually quite good scene with Bland Princess came up. It was the first time I've seen them do something vaguely clever. But it's, what? Week 5? 6? And it's still dull most of the time.

At least Medusa came ot her senses and realised she was wrong to be angry at Hercules for trying to rape her.

They actually tried to have a little more depth in the plot this week. I think it helped having more characters rather than just the three and their tired banter. The girl was hot. It wasn't actually a good episode or anything, just a slight improvement.
