Biofascism takes slap in the face from students.

You can feed fat Jimmy all the rabbit food you want at school but when he gets home he's still going to eat a box of Ding-Dongs. It's absolutely stupid to not give kids a choice, their one school meal isn't going to help or hurt them.

If you'd read the article, you would know that six of ten board members had said they'd vote for it, and that the vote was scheduled for yesterday.

= a chance that it could become false. Even a good chance is still just a chance. You are truly hard up to get one over on me, aren't you, little man?

They held the vote yesterday, and guess what? The school board voted six to four to include intelligent design in the science standards.. Once again, Wordin disproves TQ's bluster with hard evidence.

Just because your prediction came true doesn't mean that it was anything more than a prediction at the time you issued it, Fauntleroy.

Whether the original article was a "prediction" isn't relevant to my argument. I was pointing out to you that creationism in the classroom is a much bigger threat than healthfood in the cafeteria. An article showing that six of ten school board members have committed to voting for creationism proves that science education in this country is under threat.

Fixating on irrelevant details isn't the way to win an argument, my dear. If you want to beat me, then you should try to disprove my argument of a few posts back that healthy food in the cafeteria is consistent with the mission of public schools.

Healthy food certainly is -- but deciding that an exclusively vegetarian and/or vegan diet is the only healthy option is politically-motivated, not scientifically-motivated. And it remains a fact that at the time, your statement that religion had infiltrated the classroom was not yet a fact. Thus, it was a prediction.

I'm not in school anymore.......I couldn't give two shits if they served just lettuce and tofu in school........Would be rather funny to see them pull that shite in my home town.....

My point was that it isn't the schools responsibility to make sure your child is eating healthy. Pack a lunch and don't give fat Jimmy money if you don't want him eating crap. Good Lord in heaven above, does personal responsibility have any place in your social views?

That aside, as I said before, one school meal a day isn't going to make or break your child.

This article says absolutely nothing about a vegitarian or vegan diet. It says that the school banned junk food. If you think schools should serve healthy food, then why don't you support the descision to ban junk food?

My argument is that the school has a responsibility to help parents teach children healthy eating habits. Schools can't do it on their own, and if kids spend eight hours a day at school--often eating both breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria--parents can't do it on their own either. The best chance for success is if both work together. I don't think this is a difficult concept to understand.

Maybe for precisely the reason that the article doesn't specify what the schools' definition of "healthy food" was, but that at the same time this "healthy food" was so unpalatable to so many students that they refused to participate in this menu in large enough numbers to be newsworthy.

And that's where you're wrong. The school's responsibility is to educate students in the formal studies for which classes are established, not to dictate their personal choices. If you think schools should be giving dietary instruction, they can do it in a classroom, as an elective course.

Schools can't do it on their own, and if kids spend eight hours a day at school--often eating both breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria--parents can't do it on their own either.

Parents have a better chance -- and better justification -- for giving instruction of such a personal nature.

The best chance for success is if both work together. I don't think this is a difficult concept to understand.

To understand, no. To agree with, yes. The school has no place instructing its students in anything other than subjects proscribed for the course of formal instruction and delivered in that venue.

I don't understand what you're complaining about. If vegitarian and vegan menus are the only thing you object to, why are you getting so worked up over this article? It doesn't make any sense.

How do you equate amusement with "getting worked up"? I think it's funny that this pitiful little experiment in social engineering has been a roaring failure. :)

On principle, sure. What students eat is not for the school administration to dictate. Healthy choices in the cafeteria are one thing -- but implementing a menu where students have no choice but to follow dietary fads in the cafeteria is not only bad business for the cafeteria, but implies that the school has lost its focus on its primary function -- formal education. And on closed campus schools, it really is a form of small tyranny -- eat what we say or don't eat.

In practice, though, there's no need to since it failed on its own.

So, you think this is atrocious?

Looks fine to me. It's not a fad diet, it's not vegitarian, it's certainly not "atrocious"--it's healthy, balanced food. This is yet another example of TQ ranting about something without having the facts. When the facts do come to light, his arguments disintegrate.

I'm not sure I see how it's any more health-focused than your average Chili's or Appleby's menu, on the other hand, and certainly not something that would explain large numbers of students avoiding it.

Actually, that's not quite accurate. When evidence is presented that necessitates revising an earlier position, I revise it. Too bad you can't say the same.

And I'm always happy to help you revise your positions by bringing a little hard reality into your threads.
