I guess the staff wants to keep the option to troll members off the board and having a link to it open. How very ethical! Especially when complaining about it gets you warned...what a delightful racket.

No, that's not the issue, at least not the one for which this thread was started. To be honest, what you are saying is that the mods and admins cannot vent anywhere on the Internet, because no matter where it is, someone from this board can find it and read it...we gots a lot of web-savvy people here.

The issue of this thread is that Cait found a post elsewhere, it ticked her off, and she came here and vented about it. Period. Cait brought it here. That is what prompted the warning. And if you're going on the argument that the link Shal had on her profile was somehow a violation, then we have to ban all links to all other sites, for they all have the same potential.

I like Cait. A lot. IMHO, she helps keep us honest 'round here. But she broke the rules. She *knew* she was breaking the rules, and she knew what would happen. She accepted it. Poof. End of story. As to the issue of mods venting their anger/frustration/whatever...so long as it isn't here, I think they're entitled. The point is they DON'T do it here, and should someone get offended by such a vent, they don't come HERE to b*tch about it...

If you're a mod you need to restrain yourself from posting in any way, anywhere that compromises at least the appearance of fairness in your community.

If you can't handle that because it's just too much pressure and you HAVE to vent on the net...

I believe that what happens off this board should stay off this board. If it's good enough for TK members in the Godforsaken Hellhole not to be called to account for what they say about us, then it's good enough for EVERYBODY, mod or not.

Wrong... The membership of EI are not being called upon to make fair and impartial decisions about the very people they are trashing. Nobody here is hiding from you or anyone else. We know FULL well you're watching. We have alluded to that many times in my suspension thread.

I don't believe the mods should be held to higher standards away from here than any other person. They're just people too.

Guidelines are exactly that - a quanitfying of what we believe is and is not acceptable behavior on this board. I don't believe it's acceptable behavior for ANYONE to go off and complain about EI at another board.

For for a mod or admin to do it is inexcusable - that's the price you pay when you accept a position of authority, and publicly belittling posters at this board or just generally whinging about them at another board is...well...in poor taste.

I find it astonishing that y'all are talking yourselves to death about what I thought was a very simple rule:

What happens off EI stays off EI, period - mods, regular members, watchdogs, whatever. If TK has permanent exemption, then so should everybody else.

When a regular poster has the authority to ban someone over at EI then I will agree with you.

I waltzed into the official Andromeda chat room, found some people trashing Lil there and never went back. I have no respect for anyone who says things behind a person's back that they wouldn't say to their face.

I believe the basic issue is letting the mods and admins do their jobs (whether you agree with how they rule or not). As long as they follow the rules, shut the f*ck up and suck it up. There's no way for the mods and admins to do their job here - everybody's got a gripe no matter how they rule. We are literally drowning in democracy. I'm beginning to think it's a crappy idea for a forum.

Why not just remove the forum in which you can question authority altogether and make everyone march in lockstep.

The mods cannot properly do their job when they're badmouthing the same people they're ruling over with an iron fist. A lesson learned a long time ago on a board far far away.

I've been spending some time at Jim Butcher's forum, and you know what? I like it. It's heavily moderated, there's no nonsense, everybody understands the rules or hits the door, and it's a lot of fun. Maybe there's something to learn there.

The staff here need to be able to do their jobs. They can't. I'm sick of seeing this place implode in whining, and knetching and toxic waste. See ya'll, but not here.

Anyway, her post contradicts itself. First she says that folks shouldn't be talking about EI off site, but then says she doesn't care, and that mods shouldn't be held at a "higher standard". And, what goes on off EI, stays off EI. Hmmm, but before that comment, she mentions what goes on in TK. Does anyone else see this?

Oh, and lets not forget the guideline 7 violation in her post that is oh so conveniently overlooked. :roll:
