Do not send Private Messages at Wordforge

Do TK admins read members' PM's as well?

Oh you know it dear, I'm tempted to make public all those really racy ones where you and bad dog were flirting with each other.

Hot damn! There have been numerous posts over the years, by various admins, stating that endeavor was impossible.

Friday, I'm looking for this, but my unfamiliarity with WF and my ineptness at searching combined with my inherent laziness is making it difficult? Could you find an example of this; or at least point me in the right direction?

It seems before one does a search over there, one must punch in a code. Until I know what that code is for, I'm not doing any searches.

Be that as it may, Gonad, Storm himself (ironically) was infamous for suggesting that admins can, and did, read PMs over there. Cassandra continued to vehemently deny it, and went on record as saying it was impossible. Any longtime WFer can back this up.

I'll have hard proof for you if I find out what that code is about.

Code?

Perhaps you need to log in to use it.

That said Cassandra was always denying she read PM's and many times it was said by her and others that it wasn't possible.

This is fun. Elwood of course realizes the RW complications he may be creating for himself?

And as I have said it's possible for anyone who can get into the server and access the DB to read PMs... of course the person would need to know what they were doing on the tech side poking around in the server or they could screw things up.

Back before Hambil was tech admin here, I was paying a guy to work on TK and he told me it was possible to have a special CP with the ability to go in and read PMs that no other admins would know about. I think he wanted $200 to set it up (missmanners knows when she is being robbed.. and no I wasn't after PMs, I wanted to know if it was possible for other admins on other vB boards to get into PMs)... for what?

If I picked 100 PMs at random from the TK database, it would be like this:

50% Gagh sending browser crashing images or nonsense.
30% spam bots trying to post in AP and the approve PM gets sent
5% accusations of who's dual is who.
5% plotting and planning to take down other boards that I have instigated.
5% plotting and planning to take down TK that I have instigated.
2% DLA/FLA recruiting
2% GB and bad dog flirting with each other.
that leaves one PM in 100 that just MIGHT be interesting and who wants to wade thru all that other stuff just to get to it?

Are we permitted to publish private messages here on TK? I would like to share with the rest of the board a particularly disturbing PM Gagh sent me recently.

What, the one I sent to around 2-300 other members?

By all means publish it. Nearly everyone else has seen it.

Damn, and here I thought I was getting a special "Gaghie" message of the day. :(

No, when you advance search, you're asked to rewrite a 5 or 6 digit code, much like some websites use to insure the person subscribing isn't a bot.

Could it be WF's way of seeing who is searching for what?

I don't get that. Try logging in.

They can already tell who searches for what. It shows up on the "Who's Online" screen.

There is no function in vB to search or look through PM's (though there is a way to mass delete them). You have to go into the database itself, from the server, not the board, control panel, or on the command line after logging into the server, assuming your server allows SSH login.
