Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott limited in practice after new cleats bother ankle; still 'good to go'
For Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, it's gotta be the shoes. Prescott was a limited participant in Thursday's practice because of a new pair of cleats that made his surgically repaired right ankle feel "uncomfortable." Prescott was on the field Thursday for a portion of practice that was open to the media before heading to the locker room. He said he did not twist the ankle in practice; he was breaking in a new pair of Jordan 11s after wearing Jordan 1s all summer during training camp. He wore the Jordan 11s for games last season, but he said he will switch back to the Jordan 1s.
Brady, Bucs throttle Cowboys 19-3 as Prescott injures hand
Tom Brady as the first 45-year-old starting quarterback in NFL history looked quite a bit like the younger versions. Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys were left with an old, familiar feeling that isn't quite so fuzzy. The Cowboys and Bucs had the top two offenses in the NFL last season, which started with Tampa Bay's 31-29 win at home over Dallas when Brady and Prescott combined for seven TDs passing. Only one offense showed up this time. Brady, who improved to 7-0 against the Cowboys, was 18 of 27 for 212 yards with an interception that didn't amount to much because Prescott and receiver Noah Brownw couldn't connect on an easy third-down throw near midfield early in the fourth quarter.

Dak Prescott won't go on IR, has real chance for quick return to Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones says
The initial timeline for Prescott to return was six to eight weeks, according to sources. However, Jones said the report following the surgery was more favorable. Theoretically, Prescott could be back for the Oct. 9 game at the Rams in Week 5 if things work out well in his recovery. The original thought was he could miss seven games and return potentially Nov. 13 at the Packers, following the Cowboys' bye.
Is hot seat fair to Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy as key injuries continue to mount?
It was the 17th question of the news conference, about 7 minutes, 50 seconds in, after the Dallas Cowboys’ Sunday night 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fairly or not, each week will be a referendum on McCarthy’s immediate and long-term future. That was the biggest storyline coming into the season after a disappointing end to the 2021 campaign with a home playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in January. With the defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals visiting AT&T on Sunday (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS), McCarthy will look to avoid his first 0-2 start since his first year with the Green Bay Packers (2006). If the Cowboys lose to Cincinnati, the McCarthy talk will only intensify, despite Jones’ declaration at the start of training camp. Jones’ history needs to be factored into what might or might not happen with McCarthy. He has made one in-season coaching change since becoming the owner and general manager in 1989.

Bengals 20-17 on Sunday after losing a two-touchdown halftime lead. After the Cowboys stopped the Bengals with about a minute remaining, Cooper Rush got the Cowboys in range for Maher to help Dallas win for the second time in his two career starts filling in for an injured Dak Prescott. Rush got the winning drive going with a 12-yard completion to Noah Brow, who had his first career touchdown on the opening drive. A 10-yarder to CeeDee Lamb put the Cowboys (1-1) in range for Maher, who kicked a 54-yarder in the first half. The Cowboys sacked Burrow six times in the first three quarters after he went down seven times in the opener against the Steelers.
