Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones lauds Cooper Rush after he leads team to third win in row
Cooper Rush does not know if Sunday's 25-10 win against the Washington Commanders was his final start as the Dallas Cowboys' quarterback. Neither does Jerry Jones. All they know is that if it is, Rush has left the Cowboys in a better spot than when he took over for an injured Dak Prescott three weeks ago. Rush became the first quarterback in Cowboys history to win the first four starts of his career and the first in the NFL since Kyle Allen won five straight for the Carolina Panthers over two seasons (2018-19). Prescott is eyeing a return next week against the Los Angeles Rams, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter, while the Cowboys (3-1) want to make sure that Prescott is as close to 100% healthy as possible and could push back his return until Week 6 against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says QB Dak Prescott not ready yet, but leaves door open for Sunday
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones would not rule out Dak Prescott from playing Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, but he acknowledged the quarterback's grip on a football is "not well enough to play" at the moment. Speaking on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones said Prescott's surgically repaired right thumb is improving. On Monday, McCarthy said he wants Prescott to go through a full week of practice before returning. Asked if there was a number of games or wins that would make the Cowboys stick with Rush the way they did Prescott in 2016 when Tony Romo was healthy, Jones said, "No, as I see it right today."
Jerry Jones: An injustice not to give Cowboys Mike McCarthy credit
Given the structure favored by Jones, where McCarthy is more CEO than in the muck, credit is not something that goes his way often. He doesn’t call the plays, like he did with the Green Bay Packers.
Cowboys CeeDee Lamb, Tony Pollard likely vs. Rams
Lamb sat out practice Thursday before returning as a limited participant Friday. Pollard was added to the injury report Friday after he missed practice.
On the Rams' third offensive play, Dallas' Dorance Armstrong bashed through their offensive line and hit Mathew Stafford. DeMarcus Lawrence scooped up the quarterback's fumble and rumbled into the end zone. With three missing starters, the Rams' offensive line struggled to provide any support for an inert running game or for Stafford, who passed for 308 yards and was sacked five times. Kupp's brilliant catch-and-run is the only touchdown scored by the Rams in their past nine quarters of play, including back-to-back losses to San Francisco and Dallas.

For 4-1 Cowboys, now comes the fun part -- facing 5-0 Eagles on SNF
No one really thought the Cowboys would be in this position. Not after losing quarterback Dak Prescott to a fractured right thumb in the season opener. Not with so many questions on the offensive line. Not with a schedule that included the defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals and defending Super Bowl champion Rams separated by four weeks.Yet here they are at 4-1 for the second straight season. Just how good are the Cowboys? Defensively, they have been excellent. For the first time since 1972, their defense has allowed fewer than 20 points in each of their first five games. They have 20 sacks, the fourth most by a team through five games since the 1970 merger. In addition to the five sacks of Mathew Stafford on Sunday, the Cowboys pressured him 20 times.
Offensively, they are not setting the world on fire. Rush, now 5-0 as a starter, threw for just 102 yards, but he did not turn it over. The Cowboys became just the second team to win without having a running back or tight end catch a pass. They ran it 34 times for 163 yards. Tony Pollard finished with 86 yards and Ezekiel Elliott had 22 carries for 78 yards. A season ago, the Cowboys handily beat Philadelphia twice (45 combined points), although the Eagles did not play most of their regulars in the season finale with a playoff spot locked up.
Cowboys' Dak Prescott to start throwing; Cooper Rush expected to start
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will throw passes Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on his right thumb, but he is expected to miss his fifth straight game Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. "We are preparing for Cooper [Rush] to start against the Eagles," coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. McCarthy said Prescott will throw to receivers after Wednesday's practice. He will go through the quarterback school (a pre-practice walk-through just for the QBs) and go through some individual drills but not take part in any of the practice. McCarthy repeated that he wants Prescott to get a full week of work before returning as the starter. He would not get into a potential thought of having Prescott serve as Rush's backup as he continues to mend. The Cowboys have won four straight games with Rush, but McCarthy said he does not believe the team's path with Prescott would have been altered if the record were different.
Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles History
The following is a list of all regular season and postseason games played between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. The two teams have met each other 126 times (including 4 postseason games),
Through five games in 2020, the Cowboys had allowed 2,022 yards and a 47.9% third-down conversion rate, tallied 1 interception and 10 sacks, and given up -- ready for this? -- 180 points.
Through five games in 2022, the Cowboys have allowed 1,557 yards and a 33.8% third-down conversion rate, tallied 5 interceptions and 20 sacks, and given up -- ready for this? -- 72 points. Yikes.
Jalen Hurts threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns, C.J. Gardner-Johnson had two of Philadelphia's three interceptions of Cooper Rush, and the Eagles stayed undefeated. The Eagles held on after their 20-0 lead shrank to 20-17 early in the fourth quarter, improving to 6-0 for the first time since 2004, when they won their first seven games and went to the Super Bowl. Philly put the game away with an efficient drive that took up more than half the fourth quarter.
Cooper Rush had led Dallas to four straight victories in place of the injured Dak Prescott but was overmatched under the lights in front of a rowdy crowd and an Eagles defense that ranks second in the NFL in points off turnovers. Rush threw two interceptions in the first half that led to 10 points for the Eagles and the ineffective QB finished the half with a 1.0 rating. No wonder the Eagles stand as the NFL's lone unbeaten team.
