1. Jack, Sawyer, and Kate captured by the Others
2. Henry Gale is the HIM he kept talking about. Henry is also my kind of guy.
3. Henry sent Hurley back to the other Losties with a message never to return to the north side of the island.
4. Locke and Desmond (who's returned on his boat because he can't escape the island for some physical reason) tricked Eko out of the computer room with intentions of letting the count run down.
5. Eko tried to blast his way back in with leftover dynamite and nearly killed himself in the process. I think he burst Charlie's eardrums.
6. Desmond realized that he missed the count once, and that's probably what brought the plane down.
7. According to Des' former hatchmate, the whole set up is to control a giant source of electromagnetic energy, and it has to be bled off every 108 minutes. Des missed it once and...well...see above.
8. Locke smashed the computer. The clock ran down to 0.
9. Lots of electromagnetic effects including Charlie nearly getting killed by a washing machine and a dart impaling a skillet.
10. Desmond had a key to a hidden self-destruct switch. He used it. Blinding white flash ensues accompanied by a deafening whine.
11. The hatch is gone. Somehow Charlie escaped and is rather nonchalant about the whole thing.
12. Apparently only he knows what happened to Locke, Eko, and Desmond...and doesn't seem to care.
13. Henry gave Michael a boat and Walt back (big surprise to me...apparently the Others can't handle Walt)...told him to take a course of 325 and never come back. In fact, he wouldn't be able to find the place.
14. Last scenes are of two Russians somewhere cold monitoring electromagnetic activity. They detect the island burst and call...Desmond's girlfriend.
15. Lastly, Claire finally gave Charlie some sugar.

Great episode with a lot of questions answered and, of course, some new ones raised. Par for the course with this show.

There was so much going on in this episode that it's going to take awhile for all of the ramifications to sink in. Very odd stuff, but the cliffhanger didn't leave me wanting more RIGHT NOW -- not like last year's, anyway. That's okay, I didn't feel like stomping around for four months waiting for a new episode anyway.
And Hurley really should have killed and eaten Michael.

A few new coincidences among the characters, namely Desmond getting the boat from Libby (who seemed insistent that he take it...hmmm) and the fact that Kelvin turned out to be Sayid's torture-teacher from the Gulf War...the CIA guy.
There was so much going on in this episode that it's going to take awhile for all of the ramifications to sink in. Very odd stuff, but the cliffhanger didn't leave me wanting more RIGHT NOW -- not like last year's, anyway. Now the question is....why do the Others want Sawyer, Jack and Kate? And why make poor Hurley come all the way out there just so he can go back.
The statue was a freaky...I agreed with what Sayid said, that he doesn't know whether to be concerned that most of it's missing, or it only has four toes. Heh.

^Yeah, I'm really surprised that no one tried to throttle Michael, or at least take a swing at him. It raises an interesting question, though: what should they do with people who commit murder, or other crimes? Will it be mob justice, or will they devise a crude system of law? Michael is out of their hands, at least for now, but it's only a matter of time before someone else acts up. Especially with this group, LOL.
I'm glad Claire has forgiven Charlie. That kiss was sweet. He went to the dark side for a little while, but found his way back. Hopefully, he'll stay on the right path.

And why hasn't anyone whapped Charlie upside the head until he told them what he knows? These people are way too willing to walk around in ignorance.
So, I'm not the only one who expected Michael's boat to blow up? It's weird that the "hostiles" would just turn over the kid and the boat after all the trouble they went to to get him. There's definitely something fishy going on. Considering Desmond's difficultly in escaping the Island, though, maybe they figure Michael will end up back where he started. It'll be interesting to see if the promised rescue is really where they told him it would be.

The point being that even the greatest of us are brought down by time. Two, the Colossus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world which was destroyed long ago. But the four toes... bizarre. Considering that the "hostiles" have been dressing up as hillbillies to pull off some elaborate deception, who knows what else has been planted on the island for purposes of deception?
It's nice seeing Sun and Jin so happy together. I hope that doesn't mean that one of them is about to die.

The burst was an electromagnetic energy burst. That's why no boom, just a flash.
As to everyone's behavior...it's been a source of discussion on a lot of boards that everyone on this island hasn't been "acting right." Well, a giant electromagnetic generator throwing a subtle field across the island would have an effect on brains, unless you were...I dunno...taking some counteracting medicine for it every nine days or so. I think you'll see some clearer heads next season.

I don't know a lot about EM energy bursts. Is it something that the people at ground zero could have survived? Desmond, Eko, and John? I'm not sure I understand about them having to push the button every 108 minutes to "bleed off" the charge before it built up too much. Where were they bleeding it off to? And why couldn't that be automated instead of making some poor slob a slave to The Button? Sounds like lousy engineering to me. Or else another mind-fuck.

Charlie's attitude about the whole thing bothered me...he was rather happy-go-lucky when he returned to the beach, and I kept wondering why. Then it dawned on me: the two guys who had been dissing him, Locke and Eko, just blew up. He strikes me as the petty sort.
Oh, sure...there's more to it than that. We'll just have to sweat it out until September. I wondered about the automation aspect as well. It would make more sense, unless it was something you just couldn't trust to a machine that close to a giant magnet, hence the failsafe.

1) What exactly did Desmond's key do to the anomaly to shut it down, and will that affect Locke's paralysis and Rose's cancer?
2) Why did Desmond take the vials with him when he left the hatch at the beginning of the season if he knew the sickness was a ruse? And why did he go along with Locke's determination to not push the button when he'd clearly seen the results? Was he just hungover or something and didn't remember?
3) Sayid was back on the boat with Sun and Jin when the Electromagnetic Doohickey did its thing. What happened to the plan? And what was with the look between Jack and Kate before the bags were thrown over their heads at the end?
4) I'm still pretty sure Libby played a big part in this. She gave Desmond the boat, there was an odd exchange a few episodes back where she interrupted the conversation between Eko and the girl who "died" (at the airport), and she was a patient at the same booby hatch Hurley was staying. If I recall, she also agreed with Ana-Lucia about not seeing Nathan on the plane in The Other 48 Days. Nathan was the guy they suspected of being the infiltrator until Goodwin turned out to be the culprit.
5) On second viewing, I think the bird did say "Hurley" twice before it left the area.
6) If the Dharma Initiative projects are long abandoned, as it appears, why are they still receiving air drops?

I never thought of that, myself. He was also dosing himself regularly before he left. Maybe he thought "better safe than sorry." Or maybe the producers goofed. This shit IS getting rather complicated, you know.
Because Locke convinced him that it was all a psychological experiment and mentioned observation from the Pearl hatch. Only when Locke mentioned the logs did Desmond look through them and realize "oh fuck..."
The plane was to meet with Jack and the others on the beach. That all went south with the land force's capture by the Others. I hope Sayid, Jin, and Sun don't wait too long...they're Jack's ace in the hole.
I think Jack and Kate had a secret plan. Sayid told Jack not to mention the signal fire and deviation to the beach to Sawyer, Kate and Hurley, but obviously he did since Sawyer commented on the smoke. Maybe Jack's made contingency plans since he...I dunno...knew he was probably walking into a trap!
Cynthia Watros is scheduled for several guest appearances next season...I'm guessing in flashbacks. I've been suspicious of her for awhile since she has that "Other" disposition. We haven't seen or heard the last of Libby.
It did, and that was seriously fucked up. The same bird appeared in the season 1 finale when Jack's party was walking the dynamite to the hatch door. Look back, and you'll see it right before ol' Smoky shows up.
Because the Others don't want the Lost ones to starve. That and they fully understand that mangos three times a day starts sucking after awhile. That's my guess.
The Others are benevolent. Some of the things they've done seem fucked up, like hanging Charlie, but their agenda is a good one. The island is a proving grounds or a sanctuary of some sort, and the Others are there to see something through.
