New York Yankees star Aaron Judge hits 61st home run of season, tying Roger Maris' mark

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge hit his 61st home run of the season Wednesday night against the Toronto Blue Jay's, tying Roger Maris' American League record. It took Maris until Oct. 1, the final game of the 1961 season, to hit his 61st, which broke Babe Ruth's single-season mark of 60 home runs set in 1927. The seven-game homerless drought was a rare case for the select few who've reached such home run heights. Of the previous seven instances in which a player hit 61 home runs, four had reached that mark the next game after hitting 60 and none went more than three games to reach the milestone.

Aaron Judge out of Yankees' lineup for finale after 62nd homerun
When Judge homered in the first inning Tuesday night, in the second game of a doubleheader against the Rangers, it was his 55th consecutive game. He has played in 157 games overall for the AL East champions.

Auction House prepared to pay $2 million for Aaron Judge's historic HR ball
The homer pushed Judge past Roger Maris for the AL season record -- a mark many consider baseball's "clean" standard because the only National League players who hit more have been tarnished by ties to steroids.

Guardians-Yankees ALDS Game 2 postponed until Friday

The second game of the American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians was postponed because of rain in the forecast and rescheduled for 1:07 p.m. Friday. Major League Baseball called the game Thursday more than seven hours before the scheduled 7:37 p.m. pitch. New York won Tuesday's opener of the best-of-five series 4-1, and the rainout followed an unusual scheduled off day between Games 1 and 2.
