Astros sweep Yankees to reach 4th World Series in 6 years
The Houston Astros made going to the World Series look easy. This is October, after all, the time of year when it's easy to pencil in the Astros for making a deep postseason run -- and 2022 marked their sixth straight trip to the American League Championship Series. And somehow, this year's Astros team made things look even easier, steamrolling through the regular season to the tune of an American League-best 106 wins and sweeping all three games against the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS and all four games against the New York Yankees in the ALCS.
Bryce Harper's homer powers Phillies past Padres in NLCS
The Phillies made the new expanded playoffs with 87 wins as the final NL team and ended what had been the second-longest playoff drought in the majors. Their star-laden roster thundered to life at the right time in the postseason, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals in the wild-card series, upsetting the 101-win Atlanta Braves in the division series and eliminating the Padres in five games. They swept all three NLCS games at an electric and boisterous Citizens Bank Park to improve to 5-0 at home in the postseason.

Arenado hit .293 with 30 home runs, 42 doubles and a .891 OPS this season. He is likely to finish in the top five in National League MVP voting along with teammate Paul Goldschmidt, who is signed through 2024.

Aaron Judge, Paul Goldschmidt win MLB Hank Aaron awards
Judge also led the majors in slugging percentage (.686), on-base percentage (.425), OPS (1.111) and runs (133). - Goldschmidt led the NL in slugging percentage (.578) and on-base average (.404) while hitting .317 with 35 home runs and 115 RBIs. The Cardinals first baseman also won the Hank Aaron Award in 2013 with Arizona.
Houston Astros Justin Verlander wins third AL Cy Young Award by unanimous vote
Verlander's Cy Young, the third of his career, came after spending most of the past two years recovering from Tommy John surgery. At 39 years and 227 days old on the last day of the regular season, Verlander becomes the fourth-oldest winner of the Cy Young.

With Houston Astros ace Justin Vetlander also winning the AL Cy Young by unanimous vote, this marks just the second time that both Cy Young winners were unanimous. Bob Gibson and Denny McLain also won unanimously in 1968, one year after the award started to be given out to both leagues.
Cardinals Paul Goldschmidt wins first career MVP award
It's the sixth time in Goldschmidt's 12-year career that he has finished in the top six in voting for the award. He is the fifth player to win his first career MVP at age 35 or older and the first since Dennis Eckersley in 1992.

For the season, he hit .317 with 35 home runs and 115 RBIs, ranking third in the NL in batting average, fifth in home runs and second in RBIs.
Yankees Aaron Judge caps historic season with AL MVP award
Judge received 28 first-place votes and 410 points, edging Ohtani (280) by 130 points. Ohtani was the only other player to receive first-place votes, with two. Alvarez had 232 points to finish third.

Judge led the AL in a host of offensive categories, including home runs (62), RBIs (131), slugging percentage (.686), on-base percentage (.425), OPS+ (211) and total bases (391). He previously finished as a runner-up for AL MVP in 2017, when he was the unanimous AL Rookie of the Year.
