Sources: LeBron James staying with Lakers on $104M deal
LeBron James has agreed to return to the Loa Angeles Lakers on a two-year, $104 million contract that includes a player option for 2025-26 and a no-trade clause, sources told ESPN on Wednesday. The deal brings James back for his 22nd NBA season and essentially becomes a one-plus-one deal that allows him to reassess his Lakers and NBA future next summer. James joins Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal as one of only two players in the NBA with no-trade clauses.
LeBron James, who will turn 40 on Dec. 30, is considered one of the greatest players in NBA history. The only player to eclipse 40,000 career points, he is fourth all time in assists, eighth in steals, eighth in 3-pointers made and third in free throws made. Last season, James became the first player to make 20 All-Star teams, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar -- whom he had already passed for the all-time scoring mark -- for the most in NBA history. James' 20 All-NBA selections and 13 first-team All-NBA selections are also the most in the history of the sport.

Sources: Klay Thompson to join Mavericks on 3-year, $50M deal
Free agent guard Klay Thompson has agreed on a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks, ending his historic 13-year run with the four-time champion Golden State Warriors. Thompson's deal was largely inspired by the chance to compete for a fifth title with the Western Conference champion Mavericks. In the final season of Thompson's remarkable 13-year Warriors career, his relationship with the franchise became increasingly strained over contract discussions and his looming free agency. His departure became more and more likely as the season progressed.

Klay Thompson made right call moving to Mavs, Steve Kerr says
After his first practice with Team USA ahead of the Olympics, Golen State Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed the departure of Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks and wished the five-time All-Star well after "13 incredible years."
"We are going to miss Klay. We wish him the best. These things rarely go like you want where you get to draw it up and execute it and everybody goes out together. We were hoping that could happen, but it didn't. We wish Klay well, but we love him and we'll miss him." "I think it makes sense for him in his heart to get a different change of pace, change of location," Kerr said. "Get out of California, go play on a different team. It's what's right for him right now."
Thompson agreed to a three-year, $50 million deal to join the Mavericks as a free agent Monday; the sign-and-trade with Dallas, which included six teams total, was officilly announced Saturday night.

Sources: Knicks trade for Mikal Bridges as Nets load up on picks
The Brooklyn Nets completed a massive overhaul of the franchise's roster, trading their best player, Mike Bridges, to the New York Knicks, sources told ESPN on Tuesday, and landing a deal with the Houston Rockets to return the franchise's first-round picks lost in the James Harden trade. After teetering in the post-Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving windows between pursuing the playoffs and the draft lottery, the Nets declared a direction and suddenly have 16 first-round picks available through 2031, including four selections in the starry 2025 NBA draft. Nets general manager Sean Marks and Knicks president Leon Rose escalated discussions quickly Tuesday afternoon and evening, and New York ultimately overwhelmed the marketplace with four unprotected first-rounders (2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031), a protected 2025 first-round pick via the Milwaukee Bucks, the Knicks' unprotected 2028 pick swap and a 2025 Brooklyn second-round selection, sources said.

Sources: Chris Paul signing free agent deal with Spurs
Free agent point guard Chris Paul is signing a one-year contract worth more than $11 million with the San Antonio, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Sunday. The Spurs and Paul wasted no time in negotiating a deal just hours after the Golden State informed the veteran point guard they were waiving him the day his $30 million salary for the 2024-25 season was set to guarantee. Instead, Paul, 39, will spend his 20th NBA season in San Antonio, joining forces with coach Gregg Popovich as the Spurs look to build a winning team around 20-year-old star center Victor Wembanyama.
