New York City in May

Have an enjoyable trip Eloisel whatever plans you wind up making. I think you'll enjoy NYC. Just don't let the "speed" of life there make you nervous. Eggs is right, NYC moves faster than everywhere else!

The night before is so much fun. Mowed the yard so I don't get a ticket for high grass while I'm away. Arranged for someone to make sure the cats have food and water. Neighbors will keep an eye on the house. Have tickets and maps. About to program addresses into the GPS unit. Laundry is going. Picked up everything else I'll need at the store. As soon as laundry is done will pack the bags. Will check the lists. Check them twice. Try to sleep. My travel buddy is picking me up at 8 in the morning and the journey will begin. Will remember all the stuff I forgot after we're in the air and it is too late to turn back. No fear. I'm ready. As soon as the laundry is done.

you can get fined for not mowing your lawn? seriously?

Yeah. There are a lot of places now that have enacted rules like this so the neighborhood doesn't go to shit. These are especially designed to make sure owners of vacant homes and lots don't let it grow into a giant weed lot.

Yesterday was fun, crazy, maddening, nice, and fun again. Got to the airport with a couple hours to spare. Flight was relatively smooth and not too awful for a 4 hour flight. Got the car without incident. GPS unit took us through the quaint, then interesting, then shabby, then concerned for our personal safety areas of Boston on the way to our hotel in Bedford.

Hotel in Bedford didn't have our reservation made back in March. Just as well. The place was barely above nasty and it seemed more like a flop house. Found a nicer hotel for a little more in Chelmsford.

GPS unit took us on a lovely scenic route through Concorde and Lexington back to Boston. However, we were running out of time to get to the Ghosts and Gravestones tour by 8:45.

Downtown Boston was awful. Hit every red light and stoplights are numerous. Taxis were driving exceedingly aggressive. Pedestrians jump out in front of cars moving through greenlighted intersections. This place is probably high in accidents.

Was very upsetting for awhile as couldn't find the tour place and time to be there passed. Lovely company called me! They put someone on the phone who told me how to find them. She led me on the twists and turns and knew just where we were by the street names we could find and the businesses along the way. The group had already left by the time we got to the tour office but one of the employees drove us to a graveyard to meet up with the group.

The ghost tour was good, cheesy fun. Stumbling around in old graveyards in the dark while being regaled with facts and ghost tales was great. Saw where Paul Revere is buried. Saw where Cotton Mather and a few other notables from days gone by are laid to rest. Had a nice drive around Boston during the tour. Much better as I wasn't the one driving. Boston is exciting. Lots of people out walking around. Lots of places with stuff going on open.

One of the fun things about this tour is the tour takers screaming at the locals during parts of the drive. The cool part is when the locals screamed back at us and even initiated the screams a few times.

Drive back to the hotel was long as the GPS unit doesn't quite seem to understand Boston.

Not going to do the Freedom Trail today. Going to take the scenic route to Long Island City.

Later.

I can just imagine a GPS attempting to navigate Boston! It must make Siri cry. NYC traffic will seem balletic by comparison.

Pity you couldn't fit in a couple of days to see Cape Cod while you're there. Provincetown is a hoot.

Enjoy the scenery!

Here in Long Island City!

OMG.

This car is going to stay parked until Wednesday when we head to Philadelphia. Going to use public transportation. Taking the Freedom Tour tomorrow.

Yes. I'm a tourist and love it.

Yesterday was awesome. Took the "Freedom Tour" which included the Statue of Liberty and the 911 Memorial. Some of the tour was by foot, some by bus, and some by water taxi. Today we set out on our own. Went to the Budhist temple in Chelsea. Did a lot of walking. Took the bus to Delancey St. Took the subway over Williamsburg Bridge. Came back to the Court St. stop to catch the subway to Queens Blvd. Can't believe I came to New York to get a sunburn!

Was a little concerned about coming here. Movies usually make NYC to be a bad place. People here have been wonderful. Everyone has been so helpful in helping us find our way around on the MTA. Love all the little pocket parks and common plazas. This place is a people watchers paradise with the nonstop shopping and huge diversity in food bonuses.

As much fun as I've had I'm ready to get back on the road tomorrow. Bought a cd from Spanish guitar players in the subway. Will get to listen to it in the car tomorrow. On the cover - Mediterrraneo Andino - Muammer Aryar and Geovanni Suquillo. Hope they sound as good on the cd as they did in the subway.

Calling it a day early. Heading to Philadelphia, PA tomorrow. Liberty Bell, here we come.
