NFL, NFLPA approves helmet design to reduce QB concussions
The helmet performed 7% better than the most popular helmet worn by quarterbacks last season, the league said in a memo sent to team executives Thursday. Jason Neubauer, an executive for Vicis, said the company began designing its Zero2 Matrix QB helmet in early 2022.

Peacock will exclusively carry NFL playoff games
The Peacock exclusive game on Jan. 13 will start at 8:15 or 8:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on NBC stations in the markets of the two teams. It will also be available on mobile devices through the NFL+ package. It will be preceded by a late afternoon playoff game on NBC and Peacock that will kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Ex Falcon, Colts QB Matt Ryan joins CBS Sports as analyst
Ryan has played 15 seasons in the NFL and faces an uncertain future after a difficult 2022 campaign with the Colts. He was benched twice and was plagued by turnovers. Ryan's 15 fumbles were a career high and the second-most in the NFL last season. He also threw 13 interceptions.
 
NFL suspends four players for gambling violations
Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry of the Indianapolis Colts and free agent Demetrius Taylor were suspended indefinitely -- through at least the 2023 season -- for betting on NFL games last season. In addition, Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Pettit-Frere was suspended six games for betting on other sports at the workplace. The four suspensions were announced Thursday by the NFL.
 

Report: Tom Brady lost $30M in collapse of crypto giant FTX


Tom Brady lost millions in the collapse of cryptocurrency company FTX, for which he served as an "ambassador," The New York Times reported Friday. Under an agreement the retired NFL quarterback made with FTX in 2021, he received $30 million in now-worthless stock for his work pitching the company in television ads and at its conference. In step with him at the time was his then-wife, Gisele Bundchen, who received $18 million in stock, per the report. Brady, 45, ranked No. 50 on Forbes' 2023 list of the world's highest-paid athletes with earnings of $45.2 million in football salary and endorsements.

NFL announces Pro Bowl Games coming back to Orlando in 2024
The NFL announced Tuesday the reimagined Pro Bowl, which was held in central Florida four straight seasons between 2017-2020, will be played at Camping World Stadium on Feb. 4.

Source: Cowboys guard Zack Martin doesn't report to camp
Last season marked the sixth first-team All-Pro nod for Martin, who at age 32 is among the most productive players at any position. Martin, who has missed just eight games in his career, has been named to the Pro Bowl eight times. The only guard with more Pro Bowl appearances in team history is Hall of Famer Larry Allen (nine).
 

NFL revises policy to expand penalties for sexual assault offenses

The NFL has revised its personal conduct policy to expand the definition of sexual assault offenses, which could result in a more severe penalty. A first violation of sexual assault "involving physical force or committed against someone incapable of giving consent or involving threats or coercion" will result in a suspension of six games without pay "with possible upward or downward adjustments based on any aggravating or mitigating factors," according to the policy, which was obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Court won't remove Brett Favre from suit over welfare money
Attorneys for the state responded that Favre took $1.1 million in TANF money from Nancy New "for speeches he never made." "Favre repaid that, but he has neither repaid the $1.7 million he arranged for his drug company, Prevacus, to receive in exchange for giving Nancy New stock, nor the $5 million he orchestrated the USM Athletic Department to receive for a volleyball facility," the state attorneys wrote.

Reports: Bills' stadium projected to have $300M cost overrun
What was initially estimated to cost $1.4 billion in March 2022 and increased to $1.54 billion months later, is now projected to have jumped to $1.65 billion and approaching $1.7 billion, the reports said.
 
Ex-Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliot joins Patriots on 1-year deal
Elliott, who was released by the Cowboys on March 15 in a salary cap move, had a career-low 876 rushing yards in 2022, but he scored 12 touchdowns and remained a top short-yardage back and pass protector. However, he averaged 3.9 yards per touch last season, the worst mark among 51 running backs that had at least 100 touches, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.
 
Jerry Jones expects Dak Prescott to be with Cowboys for 'a long time'
Jones has continually expressed the desire to sign Prescott to an extension, but getting one completed would actually chew into salary cap room this year. In 2024, Prescott is scheduled to make $29 million in salary and has a $5 million roster bonus.

Two-time Pro Bowl TE Kyle Rudolph retires after 12 seasons
Rudolph, 33, caught 482 passes for 4,773 yards and 50 touchdowns in 165 career NFL games (145 starts). Most of those receptions (453), yards (4,488) and touchdowns (48) came in a Vikings uniform.
