Cowboys star CB Trevon Diggs suffers torn ACL​

Dallas Cowboys star cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee during Thursday's practice. Diggs suffered the injury during a one-on-one period in practice and was briefly spotted inside the team facility on crutches before undergoing an MRI, which revealed the tear. It is a massive loss for a Cowboys defense that is ranked No. 1 in the NFL in yards allowed and points per game through two weeks. Since entering the NFL in 2020, Diggs has 18 interceptions -- tied for the most in the NFL with J.C. Jackson of the Los Angeles Chargers. According to NFL Next Gen Stats data, Diggs has allowed just three catches for 31 yards on eight targets as the nearest defender in coverage this season. Quarterbacks have a 9.9 passer rating on throws with Diggs as the nearest defender. Diggs has forced a fumble, intercepted a pass and recorded three pass breakups while being credited with six tackles in two games.

McCarthy said he has had a couple of conversations with Diggs since the injury, including one Friday morning. Diggs suffered the injury during one-on-one red zone drills on the team's grass practice field. A decision on when he will have surgery has not been made.

Panthers not expecting Bryce Young to play vs. Seahawks​

The Carolina Panthers are expected to be without quarterback Bryce Young for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks after the top pick of the 2023 draft missed his second straight practice Thursday with an ankle injury, the team said Thursday. Young ranks 27th in the league in ESPN's Total QBR (35.5) and 31st in passer rating (66.6). He has led only two touchdown drives -- only one over the first 7½ quarters -- and has three turnovers (two interceptions, one fumble). Veteran Andy Dalton took all the first-team snaps both days.

Panthers' Bryce Young to miss 1-2 weeks; Andy Dalton starting
The top pick of the 2023 NFL draft will be replaced by veteran Andy Dalton, starting with Sunday's game at Seattle. Dalton is 1-1 against the Seahawks in Seattle, with his only two starts coming for the Cincinnati in 2011 and 2019. But he understands Seattle's reputation for having one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL.

Andy Dalton started against Seattle, completing 34 of 58 attempts for 361 yards and two touchdowns in the loss that dropped Carolina to 0-3 for the first time since the 2010 season. He had no interceptions. The ankle was taped when Young arrived for practice but didn't hinder his workload or performance.

Brett Favre to testify in Mississippi welfare case October 26
In a court filing Monday, the agency said its lawyers were scheduled to take Favre's sworn testimony beginning Oct. 26 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Dick Butkus, Hall of Fame linebacker for Chicago Bears, dies
Butkus finishing his career with 1,020 tackles and 22 interceptions. He was named All-Pro first team five times in his career, won the George Halas Award in 1974 and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1979. He also was named to the NFL's all-decade teams in the 1960s and 1970s and is a member of the league's 75th and 100th anniversary all-time teams.

The NFL could stage a game in yet another international location "as early as next year," commissioner Roger Goodell said Saturday. The NFL recently confirmed that cities in Spain and Brazil are under review as potential hosts.

Colts, Jonathan Taylor agree to 3-year, $42M extension, sources say
Taylor has been one of the NFL's most dangerous offensive weapons since the Colts drafted him in the second round in 2020. He set franchise single-season rushing records with 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021. Taylor has 3,841 rushing yards in his three seasons -- fourth-most since he entered the league.

NFL's Mahomes, Kelce and McIlroy in €200m Alpine F1 investment​

Patrick Mahomes, Trevis Kelce and Rory Mclltoy are part of a group that has invested €200 million ($210,970 million) in the Alpine Formula One team. In June, the Renault Group confirmed it had sold a 24% stake in the Alpine grand prix team to a consortium of investors made up of Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Efforts Investments -- which included Wrexham FC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
