Mike Vrabel email blast calls for consistent NFL officiating
The NFL's competition committee plans to discuss roughing the passer penalties after the season amid leaguewide outrage over a pair of controversial penalties in Week 5 -- one on Atlanta's Grady Jarrett and the other on Kansas City's Chris Jones. The topic also reportedly will be discussed Tuesday when NFL owners meet in New York.

Sources: Los Angeles Rams to pitch QB roughing rule change
Last year, the Rams submitted a proposal to the NFL for a potential rule change that would have made roughing the passer reviewable, but the competition committee voted against it 9-0 and it never made it to the floor for further discussion or vote.

Sources: Panthers listening to Christian McCaffrey trade offers

The Carolina Panthers are listening to other teams about a potential trade for star running back Christian McCaffrey, although a deal might not be easy to complete, league sources tell ESPN. The Panthers rebuffed at least two teams' inquiries into trading for McCaffrey last week and will continue to reject overtures they don't consider significant offers, according to sources. What makes McCaffrey, 26, so attractive to other teams -- aside from his talent -- is his contract situation. During the spring, the former Pro Bowler lowered his base salary for the 2022 season to just $1.035 million -- meaning any team that acquires him in a trade would have no issues squeezing his contract under its salary cap.

Sources: Panthers trading star Christian McCaffrey to 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are sending second-, third- and fourth-round picks in 2023 and a fifth-round pick in 2024 to the Carolina Panthers for star running back Christian McCaffrey, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday night. The deal gives San Francisco the offensive playmaker needed to compete for a Super Bowl. It also gives McCaffrey a chance to be on a winning team for the first time since his rookie season in 2017 when Carolina went 11-5 and return to the Bay Area where he starred in college at Stanford. When healthy, McCaffrey is one of the best dual threats in the NFL. In 2019, he became only the third player in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. His 670 yards from scrimmage -- a team-leading 393 yards rushing and team-leading 33 catches for 277 yards -- this season rank fourth in the NFL. In San Francisco, the hope is McCaffrey, combined with some improvement from within, can get the Niners over the hump after they came up short in their pursuit of a sixth Lombardi Trophy in 2019 and again in 2021.

49ers GM: Belief in roster led us to take 'swing' at Christian McCaffrey

By the time the San Francisco 49ers sat down for their team meeting Friday morning, word of the acquisition of star running back Christian McCaffrey had already spread through the locker room. In San Francisco, the hope is McCaffrey, combined with some improvement from within, can get the Niners over the hump after they came up short in their pursuit of a sixth Lombardi Trophy in 2019 and again in 2021. McCaffrey arrived in the Bay Area on Friday morning and was quickly plugged into the team's daily activities. After completing his physical, he got a locker and a helmet and joined the light Friday practice midstream, though he didn't take any reps in team drills. It's not yet clear whether McCaffrey will play Sunday against the Kansas City Chief, but he's already lobbying to be active, according to Lynch.

Bill Belichick passes George Halas on NFL carrer wins list
Belichick now has 325 wins (regular season and postseason), with Sunday's game breaking a tie with Hall of Famer George Halas, the longtime Chicago Bears coach (40 years). Don Shula holds the all-time mark with 347 victories.

Titans Derrick Henry ties record with 6th 200 yard rushing game
Henry carried the ball 32 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He has now rushed for 200 or more yards in six games, tying him with Simpson and Peterson for the most career 200-yard rushing performances.

Christian McCaffrey, in 2nd game as 49er, has TD trifecta in win
After tossing for a score and catching one, his 1-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter made McCaffrey the first player since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2005 to throw for, run for and catch a touchdown in the same game. He's the fourth player along with Tomlinson, receiver David Patten and running back Walter Payton since the 1970 merger to complete the trifecta.
