Okay

this is a bit off topic and I appologize for hijacking your road trip diary, Eloisel, but maybe someone is interested in this:

Peter Wingfield was at a convention in San Antonio in May, together with some of his colleagues, and he is auctioning off several items now for charity, among them this road map of San Antonio, signed by himself, writer and producer David Abramowitz and his Riverworld co-stars Mark Deklin and Jeanneanne Goossen.
The auction starts on October 18th.
For other items (3 more San Antonio-related) to be auctioned off, see this site

(edit: and with 4 non-San Antonio items I'll give you a hard time bidding because I want them myself :bigass: )

I bet a road trip with you would be fun..

A road trip with me is lots of fun and then some.

Got up super early again this morning. After free breakfast at the hotel, raced to the Capitol for a walking tour of historic downtown. Lots of pictures. Good group on the tour.

After that tour, took another walking trip with just me and my friends. We had a good time and looked at even more stuff. More pictures.

Then, we went to Mount Bonnell and climbed up to the top of that to Covert Park. Very nice and amazing views. Yes. I have pictures.

Had dinner at my favorite Austonian place - Kerbey Lane Cafe on Guadalupe. Yum. Yum. No. I don't have pictures. I was starving and eating and had no hands free for picture taking.

Then we went to see the bats come out from under Congress St. bridge. I usually do that on a boat ride but this time went to the middle of the bridge, leaned over and watched about two million of those critters fly out of there. One of those things you gotta see to understand.

After that, shopping at World Market, then a stop at Cheesecake Factory for some ever so delicious cheesecake - bananas and bavarian cream, then a run through Barnes & Noble next door.

Now, I'm back at the hotel and I am worn out.

Sleeping in to around 8 in the morning. After free breakfast, off we will go exploring the surrounding cities - Bastrop, Blanco, San Marcos, wherever we wind up. He's driving, I'm sitting in the backseat. No more climbing, hiking, or walking for hours. Going to be relaxing. Yeah.

I will get more pictures up soon.

Oh, we also went to the Elizabeth Ney studio/museum. More interesting than I expected.

That is good stuff about going places with friends. I do stuff they want to do that I probably wouldn't have done ordinarily. They do stuff I want to do that they probably wouldn't do ordinarily. So, we each do old stuff we know we like and do new stuff we will probably like. Then, we go exploring, which we like, and find stuff we didn't know anything about before hand and we have extra good time. :)

Haven't been to Houston in years.

Last time I was there was back in 1995. You Gotta love that "Merry go round" expressway they have in their downtown area. If I remember right, I wasted 1/2 of all Christmas eve trying to get off that thing and find my way back to Austin! :(

Yeah ...
my last time in Houston is a story about my experiences with liquor store robbers, a drunk Mexican, the Hare Krishnas, and a wooden indian. And, that was just the first night I was there.

This morning I'm sore all over. But, that is good. I walked about 10 hours yesterday and 4 hours the day before. I should be sore.

About to shower and dress, head over for breakfast, then meet up with my friends to start off on today's adventures.

See you later.

I think I' rather pull my fingernails out with visegrips. Have you considered naming this adventure ego trip instead of road trip?

Seriously, I'd rather watch c-span and eat cat litter while an old chinese lady screams at me in mandarin then go on an ego trip with you.

Ick.

Road trip with El: 1000 miles locked in a car with that weird smell of baby powder and impending death, Legends of the 40's radio, and the left blinker on the entire time.

Sounds like a real hoot.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!!!!

He probably sold his engine for a teener.

Or he's out of gas. I've actually seen that one before. They worked on the car for three hours before someone put gas in it. Only took four of them to figure it out.

The formula - 4t @ 180min. + 2gr. + 1gal. = RTD/fmd

Four tweakers at three hours with two grams of methamphetamine and one gallon of gas equals road trip to the dealer for more dope.

Now why would I do that when a fetid stinking alley and a darkly stained, discarded old mattress will do?

Mornin' Loktar! How are you this fine Sun.?

Not bad. Had a lovely visit from one of my brothers, his wife and one of my nephews. Enjoyed a lovely brunch of eggs, sausage, waffles, coffee, and hash browns.

tweekers are very entertaining when they're not trying to steal your shit. I saw a guy in Vegas dismantle the entire inside of his trailer, panelling and all, because he decided he needed to remodel the inside. He was on a casino lot at the time, and all you could see were huge chunks of panelling flying out the door.

Problem #1: wasn't his trailer. He was just staying there. Trailer belonged to his dad.

Problem #2: he was out of rebump and headed for the crash. He was at that point we used to call Walking Along the Train Tracks, where the freight train is comin' for you, you can't see it yet but you can hear the whistle blowing, and no matter how fast you go eventually that sucker is gonna come up behind and POW! You're laying in the bushes missing a shoe.

So we watched him for a while and kinda half-assed tried to talk him out of what he was doing, then it got real quiet inside his trailer and we went back over to see what happened. He'd laid down on top of a pile of scrap paneling that was strewn across the bed, and had pulled another chunk of panel over himself as a cover. LMAO I only wish I'd had a camera at the time...and when his pops got home it was even funnier.

Got home a little bit ago. Stopped on the way in for dinner with my daughter. All the kitties greeted me at the front porch. They actually noticed I've been gone for a few days. I was happy to see them too. Overall the trip was much needed and most enjoyable but I am glad to be home again. Lost 7 pounds even though I ate like a hog - was all that walking. Took tons of pictures. I'll put them up on my private website in the next few days so I don't max out my photobucket account. If you're interested in seeing them, let me know and I'll send you a link. No porn or anything terribly exciting - just gardens, sculptures, rivers, butterflies, hotel rooms, cool shops and such. No pictures of me or my friends will be posted there. Any persons in the photos I will post will be of people I don't know and just happened to be in the locations I was photographing.
