Sleepy Hollow

YEAH, I think you could pick it up pretty easily! You could go to a review site and read a review for each episode to get the little details filled in.

Yeah I watched the first episode today and it actually was good. I mean the premise is ridiculous, there's lots of stupid stuff in there that's all rattled off really quickly...but the show commits to it. The tone worked. I think. It was really fast paced and frantic but pilots always are and somehow it held together. The lead guy was really good, actually. And it was well directed and maybe Len Wiseman should stick to tv since his movies suck? Yeah, I can see how it could go bad but as long as they handle the material the way they did in the pilot it will stay entertaining. I'D CALL IT A SUCCESS.

Sometimes it's not the ideas that make a show/book/movie/game/whatever good, but their execution. Take "Codex Alera" by Jim Butcher, for example. He was given a challenge by a fan: Take a stupid idea, and make it work. The stupid idea he was given was this: Combine lost Roman Legions with Pokemon (or some equivalent). And he made it work. On the flip side, take a look at the anime Gundam SEED Destiny, which had some really good ideas, but executed them horribly.

Well I don't know anything about either of those things, but that's basically what I was trying to say, yes!

Sleepy Hollow is watchable TV.

Problems - reminds a great deal of Buffy, Angel, Grimm, Hellboy, etc.

Apparently the Hessian mercenaries were all into ancient religious artifacts of the demonic bent.

Every few minutes there are new things introduced for each character.

Love how the psycho sister is now a freedom fighter and has a history that reminds me of Sarah Connor from Terminator with the training to be a fighter and stashing weapons/money/supplies all over the place.

I don't mind the incorporation of all these familiar things - I liked all of them. There isn't anything new under the sun, just possibly a new way of using them. As mentioned above, the use of the tea party incident as a distraction for other activity was a nice touch.

My big issue with this story at this point is the reliance on identifying Ichabod Crane by the way he is dressed. The other characters are changing clothes regularly, which helps indicate the passage of time. Yet our boy has on the same old clothes and it appears he has no access to a comb or hairbrush either. I wonder if they are feeding him or if he does not require food. Since he was previously dead, and appears to be living at this time, I wonder if he is going to channel some rehabilitated zombie attributes in a future episode. At this point, with the constant introduction of popular traits from other TV shows, it wouldn't surprise me.

Also interesting is the "two witnesses" theme. At this time, Ichabod and Abbie Mills believe they are the important "two witnesses." However, maybe this series will take the Buffy tact, and it was hinted at in the 3rd episode of Sleepy Hollow, that at least one of the two witnesses will be someone other than expected. I loved it when Spike turned out to be the prophesied vampire with a soul that would save the world in Buffy.

I'm still watching. Think it requires a cup of steaming cider with a cinnamon stick though, maybe a pumpkin lantern on the table. Hope a Halloween related episode is extra good.

Someone needs to take Ichabod shopping for some new clothes, but they better not mess with his hair :rwmad:

I watched episode 3 (with the sandman.) It was okay. Bit silly that the one Indian in town was a mystic with JUST THE RIGHT SCORPIONS to save them. But fun!

OMG jOHN NOBLES AND UMMM.... THE GUY WHO WAS FRANKLIN ON THE SAME EPISODE!! also, Franklin isn't evil!

Franklin really gets around. I don't know if he's going to be a regular on Sleepy Hollow. He's a Freemason, they're bringing in Freemasonry! This show is awesome (and silly).

So they actually stopped speaking Middle English a hundred years before the "lost colony" was supposed to have disappeared. I still liked the idea of them speaking an old form of English and Ichabod having to translate it, even if they BLATANTLY LIED about when that language was used.

Ichabod gets online! I am QUITE sure that a frustrated mashing of the keys would cause anyone to end up on a live sex chat line!

Okay, I think this latest episode qualifies as a STINKER. It was weird and silly, which aren't necessarily a bad thing in Sleepy Hollow, but it just didn't quite FIT with the weird silliness I've come to expect.

A show with demons, headless horsemen, and other monsters can't be weird silly all the time. It's nice to see them fleshing out the characters backgrounds, family and connections so early on. Makes it easier for the audience to identify and connect with the characters.
