Star Trek 13 News/Countdown Thread

That's good. I always like her, even if her voice is so distractingly cool that I sometimes lose the gist of what she's saying.

Funny how no one wants to see more of earth, when the old shows really could've done with some more of it. We only saw Paris, San Franscisco and a shot of Cambridge in the TNG era shows from what I remember, and mostly interiors. I definitely don't want a large portion of the movie to be set there, but I wouldn't object to seeing what another part of the planet's like.

It's just a bit weird when the movie is apparently about them going to some distant planet ("the final frontier pushes back!" or whatever the phrase was) that it'll be cutting back to Earth to show...whatever. But we don't really know much about the plot I guess.

The marketing for this movie is weird.

They put the "O" next to her crotch on purpose, right?

See, they didn't have to put the words "Star Trek" on the poster because the character is one instantly recognisable as a classic Star Trek character.

Does this mean Demora Sulu won't exist to be on the Enterprise-B bridge?

MAYBE KIRK WON'T HAVE TO GET SUCKED INTO THE NEXUS ON DECK 15!

This movie needs a Ferengi holding beer bottles between his fingers, going, "WARR-ee-ERRRRRRZ! Come out to PLAY-EE-AYYYYYYYYYY!"

You'd think George Takei would be happy about being partly responsible for Star Trek finally having a gay character after fifty years, right? Nope.

"Gene's Vision"? As pointed out, Sulu's sexuality NEVER came up in the series. If it was so important that he was gay you'd think Gene would have referenced it a few times. Or does Takei think that the scene of Mirror Sulu threatening to rape Uhura is SO IMPORTANT that this change has broken Star Trek?

I agree with what Simon Pegg said: if they introduced a new character who was gay everyone would just say he was a "token gay."

So Scarlett Johansson as the lead in Ghost In The Shell, that's "appropriation". Making Sulu gay, however, is not.

Good dissonance. Very tasty.
