Star Wars: Rebels

I thought this episode was pretty good! Obviously some time has passed since the end of season 2, but I felt that the episode got across the idea that Kanan and Ezra aren't really speaking well enough that it felt satisfying when they did at the end, considering most of them not talking is stuff that happened off-screen.

Bendu was cool, although I guess he came across as a bit of a neutral Yoda, but I'm sure we'll see him again.

I LIKE SABINE'S NEW HAIR.

Watch the Rebels Recon!

It was a good episode (or two stuck together.) I liked Ezra's new look but his voice actor is still the weakest of the cast by far, which is a shame. I liked how the Bendu looked like it could have been a big puppet if this was a movie made in the eighties (and it would have been voiced by Tom Baker then too.) Sabine, Hera and Chopper got to do action things and I liked Rex getting to kill a droid again. It's when he's most happy.

The animation seemed to have taken another jump in quality from last season.

Shouldn't Ezra have been more upset to lose his Sith Holocron?

Very good episode this week. They packed a lot into 22 minutes. I liked The Bendu being all "maybe they'll find balance...or be eaten by spiders." I liked that Maul had evil robots. So the ending really wants you to think that Maul is going off to fight Obi-Wan Kenobi. I REALLY HOPE that happens and it's not just a red herring and really he's gone to find Watto or something.

Yeah this episode was great! I was also surprised at how much was in the episode but it didn't feel rushed at all.

It's really strange how the biggest problem of this show in Season 1 was that it felt like it was working on a far to small scale, and now we have Thrawn and Darth Maul and Yoda and it's great. And yeah, maybe even Obi-Wan as well...

Don't forget the Rebels Recon!

Another great episode!

I've always liked the imperial navy side of Star Wars, so I liked that we got a lot of TIE Fighters and TIE Interceptor stuff going on, and we even got our first look inside a TIE Bomber cockpit, which was cool!

But as someone who loves Sabine I was really happy this episode was all about her and her being awesome. It was nice to see Wedge (and Hobbie, I guess) and although he didn't really spend a lot of time making much on an impression, it was nice that he was there. And it gave us more time for Sabine so I'm not complaining.

And as someone who goes get annoyed at how Ezra-heavy this show gets sometimes I liked the nice bit of meta commentary that Ezra gets kind of mad when he's not the main character, and Kanan tells him off about it.

And yeah Agent Kallus is so obviously Fulcrum, I glad they didn't set it up as this huge mystery because it was just that obvious.

The Rebels Recon goes into something that would have made this episode even better!

I like Sabine! It was good seeing her do stuff and being cool and her hair. I liked the fight with Pryce. They're still annoyingly vague about Sabine's backstory.

Wedge was fine but really the appeal of Wedge is that he's Denis Lawson so this Wedge could have just been any pilot?

Chopper has hidden depths! I liked how Thrawn was done. He appreciates art. I wish they had the Clone Wars budget because Hera's home looked really dull and brown despite Ezra saying it was "beautiful."

Yeah I liked how they took Thrawn's art thing from the books but used it in a sensible way rather than in a "I looked at this 1,000 year old painting and so can anticipate my enemy's tactics" way.

WHY WAS THE Y-WING A REBELS/A NEW HOPE STYLE ONE AND NOT A CLONE WARS STYLE ONE??

WHAT BOOK IS PABLO READING THIS WEEK IN REBELS RECON??

MY CLONE WARS FEELS.

Yeah, another great episode. It's nice to have the characters who were actually in the Clone Wars actually stop and realise that the whole thing was a big sham that they were never meant to win. AND I liked Ezra not knowing about prequel era things like ray shields.

ALSO good timing that this episode featured Kalani, the super tactical droid from the Onderon episodes of Clone Wars, which are the next episodes I need to watch in my rewatch! MAYBE TODAY?

But yeah, as someone who has watched and loved all of Clone Wars, this was a nice bit of notalgia and close to that series - the ending credits music was the icing on the cake.

In this week's Rebel's Recon someone writes in not knowing the difference between Wedge Antillies and Raymus Antillies LIKE A FUCKING IDIOT:

I liked the Clone Wars stuff, the tactical battle droid was cool, it was nice to see Rex find peace with his war days. Seeing him fighting alongside battle droids was surprisingly touching. But...the writing was a bit childish at times. Like when Ezra asked who really won the Clone Wars and Zeb said "the Empire" and Ezra went "that's right! how did you know!?" Maybe because it's really obvious you little goon? (I still don't like Ezra and after three seasons that's a bit concnerning.) And Rex telling him he ended the Clone Wars was cringey af.

Sabine episodes are good episodes. I liked that we got to find out more about her family and hopefully we'll see more of that in later episodes.

The Imperial Supercommandos themselves looked really cool.

The jetpack chase was really well done and one of the best bits of action we've had in Rebels for a while.

I don't know why Ezra was even there though.

ANYWAY in this week's Rebels Recon we see Andi in her new Mandolorian armour which is great!

Yeah we got some information about Sabine's family...but we don't really know if it's true and we didn't see how she reacted to it because she had her helmet on during the scene. They always seem to hold back commiting to anything with Sabine.

Rao is a pretty good charater but I don't quite get why he hated the rebels so much then joined them at the end.

Ezra was there to be annoying I guess.

The jetpack chase was really good and I hope Sabine can fix her jetpack and do more cool jetpark things with it. JETPACK.

Andi looks nice and shiny.

THAT WAS SHIT. Holy fuck was that shit. It's like they thought "we can make Ezra likable by bringing in a far more annnoying kid!" Which, yeah, it worked I guess, but it meant we had to watch fucking Mart for 22 minutes. Absolutely nothing sympathetic about him at all. At least when DS9 did the "annoying kids in charge of a starship" episode the annoying kids died at the end. Even the space battles felt boring. I KNOW they're capable of better than this.

(And there's only so many times they can get away with Thrawn not actually doing anything.)

Yeah this was weak. It felt like we were supposed to care about Mart but he was just so fucking dumb it didn't matter at all. Even making him Sato's nephew just felt like they were trying to force us to care about him.

YT-2400's are cool, though.

BUT in this week's Revels Recon we learn that the kids were also named after members of the Star Wars production team INCLUDING ANDI but that somehow makes it all worse.

I was hoping it was going to be Dash Render when I saw that ship, instead we get bad copies of the people we care about, even down to the droid.

It was a decent comedy episode. Hondo's voice actor always does a great job and made me laugh with his "the real treasure is friendship!" ending. There was some good action with them escaping from the Cylons. But I don't like Assmorgan at all and it wasn't really clear if Ezra learned a lesson by the end? I mean he kind of said "good job, Zeb!" but didn't apologise for being such a dick.

Yeah Ezra is dumb and the episode never seemed sure if we were supposed to sympathise with his dumbness or find it just as annoying as it actually is. I still think Rebels Hondo isn't as good as Clone Wars Hondo simply because he's more of an untrustworthy-but-ultimately-good character rather than the more morally grey one that was literally going to sell Ahsoka into slavery and was fine with it. But yeah Jim Cunningham is always work it.

But apart from that I liked the episode, it was a fun little caper. I GUESS you could say the droids were like new series Cylons BUT REALLY they're Dark Troopers from the 1995 video game Dark Forces which is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT.

(and they say that in the Rebels Recon anyway and Andi wears good shirts and is good at wearing shirts)
