Saw the return episode tonight, it was...okay. They still haven't worked out their issues with pacing which is ridiculous given that they've done a full season. Here's a hint: NO MORE FUCKING MUSICAL MONTAGES. We don't have to see all the characters sitting on their beds looking pained at the end of the episode. We can just take it for granted that that's how they're going to end up.

I thought the part with Rush trying to bluff (or not) the bad guys was the best part. The baby stuff was okay but it a bit dull and colourless and TJ really looked like Starbuck when she was looking at the nebula thing and it reminded me of the maelstrom thing form BSG (and they never explained THAT in BSG but I know you can't possibly complain about anything in BSG without someone saying "BUT GOD WAS MENTIONED IN THE FIRST EPISODE" but I do like BSG so I think I've earned the right to be disatisfied with elements of the show okay OH FUCK WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT SORRY.)

The redhead is definitely the new hottest girl on the show, but I'm a bit confused by the Lucian Alliance. How come some of them like Caoimhe and the bald guy are just totally evil but the other guy and the hot girl are seemingly good (or at least non-evil) people? Why would they join an evil alliance where they have to wear EVIL LEATHER if they're not evil?
 
I'm amazed I managed to suppress my anger at the musical montage in my review above. I guess I let it all out in chat.

Mumford and Sons are one of my favourite bands and I know every word to that song, so it totally took me out of the episode when it started playing. WTF are they thinking? How can they not know that no one likes the musical montages? I mean, I know the show is set in the current day, so you could argue that the contemporary music is some sort of commentary on their disconnection from and longing for the comforts of home, but EVERY WEEK?!
 
Season finally - everyone is going to die
Season two start - noone dies, well maybe a baby

Only this show can cram a bunch of stuff that should be exciting into an episode and still make it dull and slow paced.

And whats with everyone getting over being shot so easily, is the ship the island from lost now?
 
I think Chloe being healed was supposed to be mysterious and make you think she's an alien or something. Or just bad writing.
 
They explain why some LA people are good and some are evil in the next episode (WHICH I SAW LAST NIGHT).

Since you guys are an episode behind I'll not say anything else about it, except to say it was really good, better than almost every other SGU episode we've seen so far, IMO!
 
2x02 - Aftermath

Some very blatant expositiony bits. "You asked me to tell you why we boarded Destiny", Rush's visions, TJ explaining her visiony thing to Riley. But they were good expositiony bits, so it's ok.

Rush saying that Young is mentally unstable and needs to be taken out was pleasing. Let's hope it happens soon. I'm all for complex, "flawed" characters, but c'mon, the guy's a lunatic. And Rush might not be very trustworthy, but at least there's a method to his madness.

Sad to see Riley get killed off, even though it was done quite well. He never did anything that one of the numerous other recurring characters couldn't, but the more of those types of characters there are in these shows, the better. Still, I suppose it's a lot more meaningful to kill off someone that we recognise, rather than a red shirt, so if it hadn't been him it would've been one of the civilian scientists. Or James! No, not Lt James!!!

I wonder if Rush's visions and Chloe's magical leg are related, or if that's just how he thinks.

Good cliffhangery ending. What could it be? A piece of Ancient tech? Maybe that pod that left Destiny in an early episode, or those people who left through the gate and were never mentioned again? Whatever it is, one thing's for sure. The front of Destiny looks like a bell end.
 
I find Rush and Young to be nearly equally annoying... but Young is getting worse, and Rush is getting more interesting.

The promo for next week said it was a ship that looked like Destiny, and it looks to inhabited by aliens and other hidden danger.
 
Oh, that's interesting. The thought of them encountering a sister ship of Destiny crossed my mind, but I thought they'd probably avoid that since a) it's not something they can just have in one episode and then forget about and b) they already have millions of storylines like spinning plates that they need to tend to.
 
Saw the second episode tonight. It was pretty good, yes. But giving Rush two "head people" to talk to seems a bit too much of a blatant BSG rip. Those scenes were pretty good though. It was sad that Riley died since he did seem like one of the more likable characters. Was Rober Knepper even in it? Why was he credited? The redhair girl is still cute.
 
I'm hoping Rush's head people are manifestations of whatshisface who sat in the chair and disappeared... well I can't actually remember what happened to him. Did he just disappear? BAH!

Watched the 3rd episode last night, it was pretty decent, but I probably shouldn't talk about it yet.
 
I think Rush's head people are related to him being abducted by those aliens, the same as Chloe's amazing healing leg. They keep showing the aliens in the "previously on SGU" bit, which usually means that the story is relevant to the episode. Could just as easily be Franklin, though, I agree. He vanished after spazzing out in the forgotten control chair (so the ship has a control chair, a control room and a bridge?).

Anyway, THIS WEEK'S

was really good, I thought. Telford actually had some use this week, confronting Young about how shit he is and being the hero at the end. I wonder if we'll see his adventures each week as he gets to know the Na'vi.

The seed ship actually looked cooler than Destiny and the two ships combined looked much better as well. I hoped they'd keep the seed ship docked for a few weeks as they explored it.

The double meaning of TJ saying that her baby was "in a better place now" was quite good.

I'm glad Rush's visions have continued.

The aliens are pretty good. More realistic looking than the blue ones.

I hate Young.
 
Oh and I loved the shot of the Stargate factory! They should've considered nicking a few.
 
You don't need to use spoiler code or wait to comment in this therad, I'm sure no one reads it until they've seen the latest episode (or if they don't care about spoilers.)

The third one was okay. Telford is much more likable than Young and should be the main character. The Lucian guy is more likable than Young as well. Robert Knepper actually got a couple of lines but was still wasted. Cute redhead didn't do anything either (I thought she was going to have a romance with Eli?) The pacing was still a bit slow with all the walking to and from the other ship (did we have to see the airlock door opened each time?) and the crappy waste of three minutes emo song/look at all the main characters looking miserable bit at the end. I liked the aliens.
 
Yeah, it could've been done better (like every single episode so far except Time), but it was better than average.

SPOILARS

This week's was sort of good. I mean, at first it focussed on the three least interesting storylines, but still somehow managed to end up being worth watching. And there wasn't a song at the end.

The 'body swap/saying something that no one else could know' kinda thing has been done so many times in so many shows that there really isn't a fresh way to do it, so it was a damned good thing that Chloe's alien mutation and Rush's deception were given time as well. I liked how Rush explained away his time on the bridge by revealing his corridor of equations, and blamed Chloe for the odd pattern of FTL jumps. As hard as it can be sometimes to understand why he keeps so many secrets, it is fun to see him run rings around the other characters.
 
I really enjoyed this one. Young wasn't as annoying, probably because he didn't get a lot to say. Rush is EVIL, and also... How long will it take for Eli and Scott to notice that Chloe isn't cured? They're the ones who noticed something was wrong with her in the first place, so expecting them to not notice now just because Rush says she's cured is STUPID.
 
I thought it was pretty dull and the kind of episode they should be doing unless they want to be cancelled. I'm sure I read a quote that this season would have more "adventure and humour" than season one, but we're four episodes in and therese been little adventure and no humour. Far too many scenes of characters sitting around looking miserable in a predictable one dimensional way. The aboslutely pointless "you give me the strength to go on!" scenes between Wray and her wife never should have been written. Chloe's kid of an alien but all she does is sleepwalk and write on the walls.

I did like Rush screwing Chloe over and the scene where Eli's mum saw the ship.
 
SPOILERS FOR WHATEVER THIS WEEK'S WAS CALLED

It was kind of half good. I mean, we knew he wasn't going to die, so there wasn't much tension there. And we knew the visions were just visions, so if it was meant to be at all mysterious, then it wasn't. But the visions were still kiiiind of interesting and the real world side of things got pretty cool towards the end, even if it was pretty obvious right from the beginning that Chloe's alien blood would be the solution.

The town looked like Smallville. Both shows are filmed in Vancouver, so maybe it was.

The bit where they were fighting off the aliens and Greer said "short bursts, gentlemen, short bursts!" was very reminiscent of Starship Troopers when they're defending a base surrounded by bugs. That might've even been a quote from it. Or maybe they were riffing on Aliens when everyone's using the flamethrowers.

Why does Destiny have flamethrowers anyway? Add that to the list of unlikely items that were taken aboard.

I guess the "movie" that showed how Scott got infected was a fresh way of explaining the story, but the visions got a lot of development consider we'll never see those characters again.

I was expecting to NOT like this episode based on the previews, so I was pleasantly surprised when I actually enjoyed most of it.

Scott has nice eyelashes. I wonder if he will start turning into an alien. Thought it was cool when he saw half of Chloe's face all alien and STUFF.
