Stargate Universe

It is better than Atlantis... but REALLY isn't just about every show better than Atlantis, INCLUDING Enterprise? SRSLY.

It is a good show most of the time, there are just little things that irk me about it. I agree with Fuddlemiff about the characters. I don't really care what happens to any of them. So far the only character I actually like is T.J. and she's not on the show nearly enough. I think the only reason I really like her is because I can understand her motivation. She's the ship's doctor (close enough). She doesn't plot against the people on board, she just tries to treat everyone. Everyone else has some sneaky motive that they haven't bothered to tell us about, so we're just supposed to accept whatever dumbass thing they do without knowing why they do it.

SO IS IT BETTER THAN VOYAGER???

SGU sounds interesting, but I've kinda soured on Stargate since Atlantis and the last movie.

Is there some stupid looking main enemy in SGU? Do they have to break their way out of an enemy brig every other episode? Is there some techno genius can instantly reverse engineer any alien technology while making wise crack remarks on the side?

IS DER HAWT GRRLSS????

The answer to most of your questions is no, which is why some die hard Stargate fans hate SGU. It takes itself seriously (for better or worse), it's not formulaic and this week was the first time the crew encountered any humanoid aliens. It was episode 11. And they don't seem like the big bad either, just alien pirates or scavengers, really. Who knows if they'll be in many more episodes.

There are some hot women in a range of colours and styles. There's James who has gigantic boobs. Tamara Johanson who looks like Scarlotte Johansson, weirdly. Chloe, who's a poor man's Summer Glau. And um, well there's Ming Na if you like that sort of thing...

Two of the crew can reverse engineer alien technology, one of whom can do this while delivering one liners, but they're two of the most interesting characters so it's okay.

Eli really isn't that interesting to me, and Rush is ANNOYING. He isn't as annoying as Rodney, though. I'll take his cranky mysteriousness over Rodney's bumbling around until the LAST MINUTE any day.

Eli's starting to grate on me, but I only really noticed that in this episode. Maybe he'll be less annoying next week. I like Rush mostly because he can reveal more about the ship and drive the plot forward, and he doesn't have any boring soap opera romances. The show would probably be more interesting if he did end up in command, though I don't really care about seeing the process of the coup itself.

Thanks a bunch, you a-holes. I'm getting the boxset for Atlantis at the end of the year and have actually been looking forward to it, having almost completely finished watching the SG1 boxset I got at the end of last year. Now you guys say SGA sucks. :(

May you all sleep with fleas biting your sensitive areas.

You might like it Yub, a lot of people do! Actually there were some really good episodes, it's just that there were a lot of bad ones. BUT that is how Stargate has always been, SG1 had some real stinkers too.

Season 1 was pretty good. After they introduced Ronan it was all downhill. What a terrible character, almost as bad as Teyla and that other guy with the hair.

I honestly wouldn't waste the money (or even the time downloading) Atlantis. I found it a sub par successor to Stargate and a rip off of several better scifi shows to boot. Atlantis is like DS9 or B5, on the frontier, alone and seen better days. But there are some simple, religious aliens there to keep the humans company. HOWEVER! There are vague echoes... shadows of mysterious alien dominion, if you will... ready to attack our intrepid heroes!

Thankfully, in a highly original twist, Dellen Nerys, one of the aliens, a strong willed woman, is willing to help the crew. She starts out rather skeptical, perhaps aloof, but quickly befriends the lead male, Benjamin Sheridan.

omg that was even worse than the last episode. Two bad shows (Atlantis + CSI) does not make a good one.

I do not understand this at all. Comparing Atlantis to B5 and DS9, even sarcastically, is like saying "These are the Voyages..." is on par with "All Good Things..."

As Ulkesh might say, INTOLERABLE

Why do all these smart people do such stupid things? Why would you go out on a mission with only an hour to get it done, when you could wait til after the next drop from FTL and have plenty of time? ARGH! (OH, well Cassie, if they did that they wouldn't have a dramatic 8 minutes to fix something before people die. Also Rush needed a reason to stop the takeover so the military could have something to bargain with.)

I hope Scott kicks Chloe to the curb. She is a dumbass. How come Young hasn't told Ming Na that Rush killed that wacko guy and then tried to frame Young for it? Why are they keeping that little tidbit a secret?

It was better than I expected. I thought a mutiny would have a lot more hysterics, probably with Chloe in the middle crying/getting used as target practice. I liked that she fucked over her boyfriend, though it didn't make much sense, even taking into account her newfound bond with Rush.

Anyway, Rush had a valid reason to take control from Young, at least. He wasn't just being a cliched, power mad, scientagonist.

There were some explosions again! Should please the old fans. Nobody went through the Stargate to a Vancouvan forest, though. :(

Young's a total pain in the arse. "GET IT DONE/DO IT/HURRY IT UP/I NEED YOU TO DO THIS ELI... NOW!" Blargh. I don't mind if they kill him off.

The first one after the break was on Sky tonight. It was pretty good by SGU standards. It was good to see some aliens (THEY WERE BLUE) and I liked that Rush actually did something heroic in saving Chloe (even though she's useless.) It makes sense that he'd want to oust Young, at least. TJ was still hot.

It still has the same "lack of likable characters" problem as before and Eli was downright annoying with all his whining. And the pop song bit at the end doesn't work.

Yeah, I'm sick of musical montages. It's like it's 1996 and I'm accidentally catching the end of another Dawson's Creek episode while waiting for Rocco's Modern Life to start.
