Just watched the pilot and really enjoyed it! I haven't seen Stargate since C4 stopped showing it a few years back, so I'm not really familiar with current developments (like why the Goa'uld were attacking - last time I watched an ep they'd started to join forces with Earth to take on the Replicators), but it was great to be back in that universe. Pleased to see the Tapping and RDA as well, although RDA's appearance was rather distracting for reasons that have already been mentioned (pies).
It was quite BSGish in style, but I think they took the best parts of that series and added them to what Stargate already does well, which is humour and a sense of the show being at ease with itself.
I did think Robert Carlyle's character was a bit too much like Baltar, being a coniving, bearded, long-haired Brit surrounded by well meaning Americans. But hey-ho, he wasn't as annoying as he could have been. Maybe he was more mysterious than necessary, though. It seemed like he was just an arse sometimes to generate a bit of drama and tension.
Not much to say about the other characters, besides Eli, who I did like. The medic kept reminding me of Scarlet Johansson, the daughter of the senator was a bit meh, the main dude was fairly plain but attractive and the black guy who'd been put in detention (lol, racism) was annoying.
