Stargate Universe

The latest episode was alright. Really though they need to speed things up a bit in general if they don't want to be AXED LIKE CAPRICA.

YES... I think I read somewhere that it's not doing that great in the ratings. Any decent sci-fi show is doomed on SyFy.

Maybe God likes reality shows?

"He he...look guys (angels gather), I gave 'em free will and LOOK what they are doing with it! I sure found my comic relief when I created Humanity!"

Be honest, most sci-fi shows these days are pretty shit as well. There's nothing about them that is so good as to attract people who do not usually watch sci-fi.

I like sci-fi, and SGU is decent, but it is saddled by aimless and sloppy writing (please let me know if this has changed at all in season 2), mindless action, and pointless sez, just like most other drama shows are. Its mediocrity is only buffeted by the fact that it is one of the few (perhaps only) remaining shows in a genre we all enjoy. But for the majority of people who don't give a lick about sci-fi, there is just no reason for them to try to get into yet another average TV show.

A sci-fi show today has to do something seriously great to have any chance of surviving, and I really do not think anyone would argue that SGU has come even close to that. I've never watched Caprica but from what I've read the consensus is similar. "Pretty decent and had potential" just doesn't cut it anymore. The people making these shows have more than enough experience so that if they were capable of writing a great show, they'd be doing it from the start.

So in my most humble and totally non-instigative opinion, this show deserves its low ratings and high probability of being axed just as much as all those other shit shows out there. That those other shit shows survive because of the popularity of their genre is just another sad fact of the world, but not one that changes the other sad fact that SGU is really not that great or special or deserving of more attention than it gets.

OK, rant over, back to porn.

But it's on cable, it shouldn't need high ratings to survive. The truly sad fact is that it is much cheaper to produce shit "reality" shows and syfy is just as greedy as any other network.

Also, season 2 of SGU hasn't had any pointless sex, and IT ISN'T SHIT YOU BASTARD. :rwmad:

It's not shit, it is just OK, as far as I've seen at least. I expect more from my sci-fi.

Actually I liked the show much much more at the beginning of the first season. It went downhill from the middle on, trying to turn itself into the mindless action hour that everyone but me wanted it to be. Bah I say BAH.

It has started to embrace the action adventure side of things lately, but thankfully it's not become a clone of the previous Stargate shows just yet, despite all the braindead fans who insist it should be.

Definitely needs some tightening up and a little more work on making the characters actually interesting, rather than going through the motions of showing them missing home every week. But yeah, must be the best scifi show that's not yet been cancelled, unless you count The Walking Dead.

Fringe, motherfucker.

I don't know why the CW can keep a sorta crappy show on forEVER but syfy can't give a pretty good show more than a season or two.

Maybe they need opening sequances with the stars on turntables with wind blowing through their hair.

Stargate must cost quite a lot to make, though. All that CGI, Robert Carlyle, Chloe's hair and makeup, Lt James's boobs insurance premiums, the detailed sets...

Yeah, HER BOOBS ARE A FORCE OF NATURE.

Would you guys be happy with lesser production values? I think at this point I would be. All the really pretty shows get canceled no matter how good the actual story and acting are, and all the fakey looking shows get renewed no matter how good the story and acting are. Sanctuary is a perfect example of a pretty good show with lesser production values. Most of the scenery looks a bit fake, and the effects are a bit cheesy at times, but the story is usually fun, and I enjoy the actors, so I don't really mind not having big expensive effects.

So, I watched it even though I wasn't planning to. It was really good, and I'm pissed that it's canceled ALL OVER AGAIN :rwmad:

It was a good episode. The methods of defeating the drones weren't too technobabbley and the focus on Chloe was interesting enough, considering I usually have no interest in her character at all. I groaned and shouted "arrrgh, SLOW MOTION?!" during the slow motion shot of her walking to the shuttle. We don't care about her, she doesn't deserve slow motion and piano music!

Rush suddenly being nice was a bit odd. It felt kind of like the writers were responding to fan criticism?

I hope next week Eli dies and it's meant to be really emotional but everyone forgets by the next episode.

Laughed at Chloe's alien tit and then the "look, her alien tit is human again!" shot.
