That awkward moment when Conchaga says "I told you so."

I think there was a time when all such discussions were in the open here. The staff position was one that admins and moderators weren't somehow above the rest of the members, you could always speak freely (well besides illegal, threatening to sue, or pi). My ideas about TK aren't any better than yours just because I'm a mod, in other words. I don't even think there was a staff only forum for years.
 
Every forum needs a staff room, you would end up sending PMs ya whole life, staff having a place to talk does not make the staff "above other posters" at all in my opinion but it is needed and used daily.

Well, I wasn't suggesting getting rid of the secret forum. There are plenty of boring things to talk about in there. I am suggesting that we discuss what this thread is about out in the open.
 
Missmanners stole my reply which is why I lurve her. Everybody is talking about what to post and where and when and how often: messboards are fluid things to be dictated by the needs of the members. Don't punish the minefielders for sequestering, tweak the definition of the minefield to better fit them. Right now that's the going hub for scifi and assorted popculture stuff. So direct newbies there instead of trying to draw the residents out.

As for other forums: any forum dragging along empty of participation should be fumigated, swepf out, repurposed and given over to any prolific posters willing to put in the time. Make the forum fit the membership and people will come to stay.

My only caveat is Eggs' suggestion of a name change. On the'net, brand recognition is everything and this is the motherbugging LEGENDARY TK. Recognize. If a few hapless wannabe trolls wander in by mistake, so much the better. We need new idiots to play with occasionally .
 
I'm confused. Which forum am I supposed to post my statuettes of famous people carved entirely out of semi solid cow dung?
 
I freely admit that nuking the NAP accounts was a personally-motivated decision. He's an asshole and at one point in his career here he made it his sole purpose in life to spread my personal info across the internet in a negative fashion, creating two websites for that very purpose in the process. For those of you about to say "yeah, but you dox'd him, too" I'm gonna counter with this: I have NEVER dox'd ANYONE who didn't start doing it to me first and I take that shit OFF of TK. I have treated PI trolling like the US treats chemical weapons attacks: never as a first-strike weapon. I did troll him with some tongue-in-cheek racist comments, however he decided to take it to a new level by taking it seriously and getting personal with me. The man paid actual cash money to try and get my info just because I jokingly called him a 'nigger.' That's fucking scary.

SECONDLY, he freely admitted to wanting to chase off membership and ruin the fun of other posters. Not that I believed the validity of his tragically ironic statements, but if he's willing to PI troll ME, he's willing to do it with other posters. It's not a risk I'm willing to take. The man is NOT the kind of person TK was intended for, nor do we or should we allow people like that to stay.

I told him that if he registered a new account and said he's sorry (he doesn't even have to be serious with the apology) that I'd fully reinstate him and never fuck with him again. I meant it. I also said in the past that if he and I were to ever meet face-to-face, I'd shake his hand and apologize personally for the racist shit, because I'm very much NOT a racist and I don't think that words on the internet are EVER worth physically fighting over.

As for Ding! I'm just fucking with the guy and the only admin privilege I've abused so far was using the sticky button on that poll. I have no intention of banning ANYONE else until they break rules. Therefore, this screaming about the injustice of the NAP accounts is - in my mind - totally moot. It's only because I'm the one he was PI trolling AND an admin that I am being scrutinized. None of you would bat an eyelash if he'd done that to you and I torched his trolling accounts to protect you from further bullshit.

I'd also like to add that in the two years since I've been taking a break from this place, he has continued to research me and update his websites. I had to go to the host of one of his sites to get it taken down at one point, because a friend told me he found it. I have no doubt in my mind that he would not hesitate to use my personal info on this site again. So, if we let him back in, do any of you feel truly safe with him around?
 
I understand why you don't feel safe with him around, and why you nuked him for spreading your PI... but I'm not sure how we should answer about feeling safe ourselves since he hasn't done any of that to any of us over the past couple years you've been gone. I'm not trying to piss you off or anything, but I don't feel any safer with him gone.
 
Has anyone gotten into a hardcore trolling match with him like I did since I've been gone? Probably not. Why? Because he's the type of guy who eventually resorts to using PI. Who wants to troll a troll that dox's people when he starts losing? He's fun to mildly pick on, I'll admit that, like it's fun to pick on Ding! and Luci (while he was here) but if any members tried to seriously fuck with him, he'd go after their info. He had a history of it in the Gutters over at ComiCon, too. When posters saw that we let him back into gen-pop after that bullshit, do you think they felt comfortable trying what I did again? I know I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but they're not that far off the mark if I am wrong. We royally screwed the pooch when we let him out of Daycare, because in all reality, he should've remained outright banned after he created his first website about me and linked it here.

That narrows it down to about 300 million people.

It's like watching the last "good" cop in a drama try to save the community he lives to serve.

In the end, he ends up as just another chalk line on the street.
