According to Deadline, the divisive series from Damon Lindelof burned through most of its source material (Tom Perotta's novel The Leftovers) in Season 1, and as a result, there are two huge changes on the agenda for Season 2. First, the show is moving away from the fictional town of Mapleton, New York to a new to-be-determined location. It's an odd choice, given how important Mapleton was in Season 1. The Leftovers may revolve around a global event that sucked millions of people into thin air, but the show's freshman run concentrated on the Departure's effect on the residents of the town, effectively making it a character in and of itself. Apparently, that will no longer be the case.
And The Leftovers' primary setting isn't the only element of the show that's in trouble; Season 2 is reportedly ditching a large chunk of the cast, too. But before you panic too much, rest assured that the Garveys will be back. Star Justin Theroux obviously isn't going anywhere, and the same goes for Amy Brenneman and kids Margaret Qualley and Chris Zylka. Meanwhile, Carrie Coon, who plays Nora, and Christopher Eccleston, who plays reverend Matt, are also returning, thank heavens. However, the future is apparently somewhat uncertain for Liv Tyler and Ann Dowd, though Deadline believes both will be back (yes, even though one of their characters died in Season 1). Not looking good to return as series regulars are Emily Meade (Aimee), Amanda Warren (Mayor Lucy), Michael Gaston (the dog-shooting Dean), Annie Q. (Holy Wayne's baby momma Christine), and twins Charlie and Max Carver (twin bros Scott and Adam Frost).
