The Leftovers

I used to love post apocalyptic fiction but I've started go off it lately. I think just because there's so much. You used to have to wait for a Roland Emerich/Dean Devlin movie. Now they're all over the place!

Terra Nova, Revolution, Flashforward and is it The 100? All crap. And Fallen Skies is pretty mediocre.

The Last Ship is pretty good, and The Strain's above average.

Anyway, I guess I'll give this a go. Is this one of those rapture type stories?

Oh, that flashback episode was actually really good. They don't jump back and forth, it's all flashback. It explains a lot of things, and it is sad.

It is a rapture story, but they don't ever explain what happened to the disappeared. It's about what happens to the ones left. This one is not typical post apocalyptic, nothing is burning, they've still got coffee shops and convenience stores, and high school. It's a mental apocalypse.

ALSO, The 100 is pretty good :rwmad: It's much better than Falling Skies, which isn't saying much. At least Desmond is in it!

2% of the world's population have disappeared. The series is set three years later and is about how society (well the town the show focuses on anyway) has changed since then. There's times I'd like to see the rest of the world as well. The acting is very good and it looks nice and everything but there's times I'm not sure about the writing (it's Lindelof.)

POSTED AT SAME TIME AS CASSIE.

SO ABOUT THE FNIALE (spoilers).

I wish we'd seen more about the riot than Kevin's mental health, weird dreams. We still don't know what the magazine thing was all about it all.

Amazing coincidence that he ends up in the same place as Wayne? OR FATE. What did he wish for? Why was Wayne obsessed with impregnating asian girls?

Laurie's face annoys me.

So the boy (can't remember his name which is bad after ten episodes) just left the baby on the doorstep? What if his family had moved or been killed or were on holiday or something? Did Kevn wish for a new family? I DON'T KNOW.

Oh it's also weird that Nora and Matt were brother and sister but it never really came up other than one episode and Kevin apparently had known Matt for years but didn't know who Nora was or ever mention them to each other?

I think Kevin did wish for his family but instead of his family he got a new one. OR SOMETHING.

Yeah but then Kevin will just wake up and IT WAS A DREAM STATUE and he'll find a bra in his bed or something.

The Leftovers' Second Season Will Be a Lot Different from Its First - The Leftovers Community - TV.com

According to Deadline, the divisive series from Damon Lindelof burned through most of its source material (Tom Perotta's novel The Leftovers) in Season 1, and as a result, there are two huge changes on the agenda for Season 2. First, the show is moving away from the fictional town of Mapleton, New York to a new to-be-determined location. It's an odd choice, given how important Mapleton was in Season 1. The Leftovers may revolve around a global event that sucked millions of people into thin air, but the show's freshman run concentrated on the Departure's effect on the residents of the town, effectively making it a character in and of itself. Apparently, that will no longer be the case.

And The Leftovers' primary setting isn't the only element of the show that's in trouble; Season 2 is reportedly ditching a large chunk of the cast, too. But before you panic too much, rest assured that the Garveys will be back. Star Justin Theroux obviously isn't going anywhere, and the same goes for Amy Brenneman and kids Margaret Qualley and Chris Zylka. Meanwhile, Carrie Coon, who plays Nora, and Christopher Eccleston, who plays reverend Matt, are also returning, thank heavens. However, the future is apparently somewhat uncertain for Liv Tyler and Ann Dowd, though Deadline believes both will be back (yes, even though one of their characters died in Season 1). Not looking good to return as series regulars are Emily Meade (Aimee), Amanda Warren (Mayor Lucy), Michael Gaston (the dog-shooting Dean), Annie Q. (Holy Wayne's baby momma Christine), and twins Charlie and Max Carver (twin bros Scott and Adam Frost).

NOOO!!! I like the goofy twins.

Why would Liv Tyler just happen to move to the same town as them? Unless she's following the family around to smoke at them.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

It wasn't boring, at least!

What was the opening scene? Was it a metaphor for...dead mothers?

Why were the firemen starting fires? Was it a metaphor for ASSHOLE FIREMEN?

Why is the fat GR woman's actress STILL in the opening titles when she DIED ages ago?

WHERE WAS THE BIRD?

IT WAS TOTALLY KOOKY, but I kinda loved it?

The only question I think I know the answer to - the firemen run people out of town when they think they're taking advantage of the pilgrims (I don't know if the people coming to town are called pilgrims but they seem like pilgrims oky).

ALSO yeah, WTF WAS THE DEAL WITH THE BIRD IN THE BOX?

She puts a bird in a box every day to see if it disappears? Or something.

Do you think the girls faked their rapture? And the lake disappearing was just a coincidence.

Couldn't she just keep a bird in a cage instead? :rwmad:

HONEY, I'M GETTING A BIRD!

OKay! NOTHING WEIRD ABOUT THAT.

Oh I think the girls faked it so that people won't think the town is a miracle anymore and all the tourists will fuck off that's my theory.
