The Latest True Detective Casting Rumor: Vince Vaughn Is in Contention for Season 2 - True Detective Community - TV.com
The True Detective rumor mill has named another potential cast member for Season 2.
Vince Vaughn is in talks to join the HBO drama, TVLine.com reports. The Swingers and Wedding Crashers star joins the previously rumored Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch as a possible lead for the second season.
Series creator Nic Pizzolatto previously revealed that Season 2 of the anthology series, which recently received 12 Emmy nominations, will feature more than two leads, likely with at least one of them being female.
At the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour, HBO President Michael Lombardo promised that True Detective's second season would live up to the first in terms of casting. "The people who we will cast will be well-known names," he said. "Great writing attracts great actors."
Vince Vaughn is in talks to play the central antagonist (not necessarily the villain or murderer – this is a mystery-based series after all) on the second season of HBO's “True Detective,” while “Mad Men” star Elisabeth Moss is being eyed for the female lead and “The Killing's” Michelle Forbes is in contention for a key role on the show, TheWrap has learned.
Colin Farrell is nearing a deal to star, while Taylor Kitsch is the frontrunner to play the younger male lead, as TheWrap first reported.
HBO had no comment on casting decisions.
According to a breakdown obtained by TheWrap, the second season of “True Detective” will follow the death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt city manager of a fictional California city who's found brutally murdered amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government are tasked with finding out who did it. They soon discover their investigation has much broader and darker implications than they initially thought.
Caspar's 52-year-old corpse is found on a lonely stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sur — satanic symbols etched on his chest. It turns out he had a penchant for rough sex and may have been involved in the occult.
Vaughn is in talks to play Frank Semyon, a former thug-turned-businessman who's working with a local mayor and his political cohorts to spearhead the construction of a high-speed railway system that links Southern California to Northern California in order to reap financial gains from federal grants and land purchases.
Moss, who recently played a small-town cop in the similarly themed, “Top of the Lake,” is being eyed to play Ani Bezzerides, a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol.
Farrell is nearing a deal to play Ray Velcoro, who has been damaged by years of turmoil in both his personal and professional lives.
Kitsch is angling for the role of Paul Woodrugh, a handsome, 28-year-old military veteran who has seen his own share of violence and destruction. Forbes, who starred on the first season of “The Killing,” has been rumored for a part on “True Detective,” and it's possible she could play either Farrell's ex-wife (a survivor of sexual assault) or Vaughn's charming but mercurial wife.
It's official: Colin Farrell and VInce Vaughn will star in season two of True Detective, HBO announced Tuesday.
Justin Lin will direct the eight-episode sophomore season that centers on two police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.
Vaughn is set as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.
With its first Season 2 table read scheduled for this Friday, True Detective is filling out its cast. According to Deadline, the HBO drama has cast former Black Box star Kelly Reilly as a series regular and is signing Abigail Spencer (Suits, Rectify), Leven Rambin (The Hunger Games), and Michael Irby (Almost Human) to recurring roles.
True Detective's second season will be set in California and revolve around three police officers and a career criminal who navigate a complicated web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. Both Reilly and Spencer reportedly met with series creator Nic Pizzolatto about the lead female role—one of the three cops—which has since been offered to Rachel McAdams. Instead, Reilly will play a "self-possessed" character named Morgan, while Spencer will play a the victim of a sexual attack.
Meanwhile, Rambin will play Sophia, a beautiful woman with a history of drug abuse, and Irby will play a police officer who's partnered with McAdams.
Although McAdams' role in the series has not yet been confirmed by HBO, the network recently announced the casting of Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. They'll presumably be joined by Friday Night Lights alum Taylor Kitsch, who confirmed his own long-rumored casting in an interview earlier this week.
Add four more names to the growing cast for True Detective season 2 with a couple of HBO veterans joining the production….
True Detective season 2 is about to get underway with production for a summer 2015 debut date and the cast list for the hit show just keeps expanding each week.
The latest news sees former “True Blood” star Riley Smith, who played Keith in the final season of the show, joining True Detective season 2 to play Rachel McAdams’ boyfriend on the series. He’s set for a recurring role in the upcoming second season.
Also added to the cast is Christian Campbell — who is best known for his role on the HBO series “Big Love” — and he’s also joining the cast in a recurring role. Campbell’s role is still undetermined at this time.
The final two cast members added this week were Michael Hyatt (who will play a real estate agent in the series) as well as Yara Martinez (who will play a Mexican-American immigrant who runs an inn).
True Detective season 2 stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams in a story that revolves around the investigation into the murder of a corrupt city manager and the conspiracy surrounding his death.
True Detective once again has fans scratching their heads, but this time the confusion has nothing to do with one of Rust Cohle's rambling existential speeches.
After casting comedy stars Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams in key roles for its upcoming second season, the acclaimed anthology series has also added '80s pop icon and General Hospital alum Rick Springfield. No, really.
Springfield revealed his involvement Thursday on Twitter.
