The Birmingham Stallions have been the team to beat all season, but they're up against a gritty Philadelphia Stars team for all the marbles this weekend. The inaugural season of the USFL ends this weekend with a championship bout between the Stallions and the Stars​

 
USFL stars squaring off in championship game 'grateful' for opportunity to play in league
Victor Bolden Jr. and Maurice Alexander Jr. will play for a championship Sunday. Bolden’s Birmingham Stallions will take on Alexander’s Philadelphia Stars at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, for the title, wrapping up the rebooted league’s inaugural season.

Birmingham Stallions ride to USFL title behind Alex McGough, Victor Bolden Jr. 33-30
McGough, who was the opening day starter for the Stallions, finished 7-for-10 for 77 yards, with a touchdown pass and an interception. Bolden finished with six receptions for 64 yards. He also had a 43-yard kick return, earning MVP honors for the game. - Case Cookus played well for the Stars, completing 17 of 29 passes for 222 yards and three scores.


 

Dallas Cowboys sign WR/KR KaVontae Turpin, USFL MVP


The Dallas Cowboys signed receiver and kick returner KaVontae Turpin on Thursday. Turpin was MVP of the United States Football League with the New Jersey Generals this spring after that league completed its first regular season since 1985. The 25-year-old led the league in receiving yards and had the only kick return for a touchdown. While playing for the Generals, Turpin led the USFL with 540 receiving yards in 10 games, with a league-best 316 of those yards coming after the catch.

Three things NFL should adopt from USFL, including running clock after incomplete passes depending on quarter
Similar to the 1980s version, the modern-day USFL has several policies that makes it a little different than the NFL. The NFL eventually adopted some of the original USFL's policies, such as instant replay and the two-point conversion. Like they did before, the NFL would be wise to consider adopting some of the USFL's current policies in order to improve both the fan experience as well as the on-field product.
