Vikings

OH NO, ATHELSTAN :( Srsly though, I already knew he was going to die, I read about it somewhere before the season started.

Also, they did another time jump, at least this time it was a bit more obvious.

AND I sorta think Ragnar and Ecbert were in on the slaughter of the farmers together for some reason. The only other reason I can think that Ragnar would want to keep it secret is so that he can proceed to Paris as soon as possible without putting it off for revenge.

Ragnar definitely seems to be in on the slaughter!

Finally got to watch the episode today.

Floki has lost all respect for Ragnar and I'm really interested in what the seer meant when he told that shit to Rollo!

OMG PARIS!

Ragnar knew just what to say to Floki to get him to build those war machines. I am almost certain Ragnar is going to pretend to be a monk to get into the city, so I'm not sure how that's all going to go down. Floki is nuttier than ever.

Fucking Queen Kwenthrith, I love her. I hope she's the downfall of Wessex eventually. Don't mess with her! lol

Now I wonder if Princess Gisela is the princess of Rollo's prophecy.

I don't know, Ragnar seems to be enthralled with Christianity too, but you may be right about sneaking in as a monk. We'll see if he packed Athelstan's cloak!

Holy shit, Ragnar really let Floki crash and burn. How many Vikings died for revenge! Fuck.

Kalf is fucking hot. I hope Lagertha doesn't kill him too soon.

The princess will crown the bear.

Oh shit... I wonder if Ragnar is going to die soon, he thnks he is.

Ragnar's love for Athelstan is really sweet.

WELL once you do watch it... I think Ragnar has still got something up his sleeve. I know he wants to be with Athelstan, but he wants PARIS.

Watched it last night!

OK the baptism took the Vikings by surprise and that priest even more.
Ragnar is hallucinating with the pain but that seems to be making him just as batshit as Floki in a way. I agree he has other plans but have no clue what they could be. I still think he has a big interest in Christianity and that's why he wanted to be baptized - along with the fact he thinks he's dying at the moment. I cracked up when the priest told him even if he's baptized he's going to hell and Ragnar told him it wasn't for him to decide. The look on his face was awesome.

I think in the viking legends Paris is where Ragnar is supposed to have come in contact with Christianity, so I like that the show is sticking pretty close to the stories, while also taking liberties that make the show so good.

I'm loving Ecbert and Judith. I'm glad she's not been turned into a weakling! Aethelwulf is just as nutty as Floki, lol.

I wonder what it is that they all found so fascinating about Athelstan.

I think Ecbert is a little creepy for the fact that Judith will only get protection if she is his mistress. But then back then women were chattel.

Aethelwulf - yeah he is batshit. He always wants to please his father and his nuttiness is to show his father how worthy he is of the throne. Ecbert knows he's not worthy and is just pacifying him while making him do his 'dirty work'. I wonder how he's going to off the kid? Or have him 'offed'.

With Athelstan, I think his appeal is (was) his kindness and the fact he never tried to convert any of the Vikings to Christianity. He answered questions asked of him, was curious about their beliefs in return, but never condemned any of them for who they are or what they believed. That's my guess anyway.

Well, Ecbert and Judith were pretty smitten with him too. I know Judith was all about that stigmata, lol.

Yeah, Ecbert is definitely creepy. I'm just glad Judith isn't all teary eyed and weepy about all of it. She's doing what she's gotta do to survive. The real Judith was quite a character.

Yes, there is the stigmata to keep everyone "in check". It definitely is to Judith's advantage to stay alive and have her baby survive. With one ear missing, she doesn't have many choices if they didn't kill her anyway.

I don't recall Ecbert being smitten with Athlestan. I thought he treated him like property more than anything else and got infuriated when he went back with Ragnar.

The reason I mentioned Ecbert's thing for Athelstan is that he only decided to protect Judith once he found out Athelstan was the father of her baby.
