The bad thing about "Lightning Thief" is the best stuff was in the promos on TV. The storytelling was really on par for the pre-teen but a couple of the monsters were pretty frightening. I'd have had nightmares for years over them but children today may be more sophisiticated or jaded from the routine fare they are subjected to on TV so maybe they'd be okay with it.
Saw "The Wolfman" tonight. Had to pay full price - out of movie passes already and it wasn't showing at the matinee anywhere - and the row behind me, in the small theater, talked and got up and down all through the movie. On top of that, I do not care for the actor that played Laurence Talbot - even though he was a good choice if trying to cast a Lon Chaney looking type actor for the part. I was also predisposed to dislike the movie because of the professional reviews and word of mouth from the average audience. However, I think I would give it a higher rating - maybe a B+. The picture was good looking, the cast was good even if they were a tad over the top in the dramatic theatrics, the relationship between Laurence and Gwen could have used some development, and I definitely could have done with a little less gore in the freaking teeth and smeared all over him with guts strewn all over the ground. But, I particularly enjoyed the old dog rallying there just before the fire. Pretty darn good.
