Where is the Random Thread of Randomness stuff that doesn't belong in other threads thread?

Although checking the Google Map for availability and seeing the pretty consistently low 3 star ratings across the city reminds me just how absolutely shitty and terrible McDonald's has gotten in the last 25 years or so. Seriously. Don't try to be something you're not. Don't try to be high-brow grown-up food. You're not. I go to McDonald's because I've got to be somewhere in 3 minutes, I've got $5 in my pocket, and I need to put edible calories in my face-hole. That's all I want. And a Filet O' Fish with a Shamrock Shake, served by a clown. You can't make a fucking ice cream machine work, why are you trying to serve breakfast all day and make lattes?

They're suffering from the same after-effects from the pandemic as every other restaurant/chain -- nobody comes into the store anymore, everyone wants delivery. It changes the whole economic model of each franchise, sometimes fatally.

To be fair (IMO), every McDonald's I've been to since at least 2014 or so has sucked. Basically since they started phasing out Ronald McDonald and moving towards "I'm Lovin' It" and McCafe etc. As early as 2005 or so, I was in line at one and made small talk with another customer to the effect of "I'm actually happy when service is bad here because then it means qualified people are able to find better jobs. If you get good service at McDonald's, you know the job market is bad."

I don't think I've been to Rotten Ron's in about two years. I have been having a sort of craving lately but just really don't want to pay the prices they're currently asking for that garbage.

Fast food in general has been suffering since the pandemic. I especially hear horror stories about the local Burger Kings, like they're staffed by only two people and one in particular has a problem with the manager bringing her kids into work with her and they're running around the place barefoot and throwing tantrums. Which reminds me, the last time I went to a BK I just ordered a couple of double cheeseburgers and a large fry and sat at the drive thru window (not in line, mind, at the window) for 25 minutes and they screwed up the order and had to wait another 15 minutes for it to be corrected. And after that it was like $14.

No bueno.

Seriously. How is it the end of the 20th century was the high point of Western Civilization? You had cell phones and Internet--even broadband if you were an early adopter--but you still had newspapers and phone books and bookstores and video stores and malls. My theory is...it's kind of like the "South Park" where Earth was an alien reality show that was going to be cancelled. It was all supposed to end with a big finale at 2012 to jibe with the Mayan calendar but the ratings were still high enough that it keeps getting renewed and now the writers are just totally out of ideas and every new season gets shittier and shittier.

Lately I've found myself randomly posting the following on social media: "So, the 21st century in general has pretty much sucked so far."

Because it has, from the start with Bush-Gore. Then 9/11 changed the trajectory of everything, and assholes were suddenly being trusted with our lives. And here we are now, about to hit bottom.

Oh well. Time to order some junk food from UberEats...
