Aug.9/07

ALSO if I EVER think it'd be a good idea to start a re-finishing project in the middle of summer just put me straight in the dumpster OK?
OMG KILLMYSELF18BANNISTERSTOPAINTNOWPLUSTHEGODDAM BASEBOARDS.

I got The Dispossessed, the Telling, and one of her new fantasies called Gifts. I don't know which one to read first. I do know I'm going to finish His Dark Materials first because it's a trilogy and I can't wait to find out what happens. I might close my eyes and shuffle the Le Guin books and pick one that way.
Aug. 10 after I finished working then I got to work on the rest of the bannister. it's actually down to the final stretch and should be finished tomorrow in a coupla hours.
looks like it's gonna be OK but what a bloody PITA painting those &^%*$# spindles was.
I need half nekkid mens and a glass of wine.
STAT!
8/10 - Didn't get a haircut today, will have to do it in the morning. Made an article deadline this evening with a little time to spare, booyah. Now catching up with work before heading home and collapsing (with maybe a cocktail first).
Are we adding to the server problms by having this long thread? Would it help to do a Diary Part Due?
Meantime:
August 13:
bought Hot Fuzz for a VIP's birthday pressie tomorrow per request; broke down and watered part of the back garden (and very grateful I am to have the H2O to be so frivolous with, btw); saved a bat from drowning in my water collector - which hardly has any water left in it, but enough to nearly drown a little bat at least- but he shouldn't even be out in the daylight so something's wrong...put him in a black flower pot, hid it by one of my shaded composters, put a birdhouse roof against it so he can crawl out but cats cant get him;...otherwise since he eats mosquitos in the air I cant do much to help him; hope he makes it.
yeah, - I didn't touch him because of that - sort of scooped him with the flower pot - the cats around here are all req'd by law to be immunized for rabies - it's ME I dont want to get bit. But I think his one wing looked a little wonky actually. poor Battly.
and it's sensible to be suspicious of any nocturnal animals around in the daytime...bats getting rabies pretty rare - but that skunk wandering around before in the mornings had me rather worried.
8/14 - Have been out of town. Am still out of town now. Never got hair cut, no one seemed to mind. Feeling sick from a weekend of "picnic food" and appetizers. Need something real in my stomach soon or I'll die. DIE!
Using my brother-in-law's wireless setup, for some reason I can't get the BB8 live feeds. SOON I'LL DIE LOL
watched the local lads' nighttime soccer match, awesome! (and the game was pretty good too); went Persieds-watching: everyone ELSE spotted a comet except ME.
waaaay later The Man of The House went outside to chase off "the damn raccoon" rooting around in the re-cycling bin under the bedroom window - heard a crash, and the side door SLAM -a few seconds later I heard him run upstairs and stand on the landing breathing heavily - something told me this was NOT a prelude to my getting lucky - alarmed, I asked: "What!?!!!???" he said: "It wasn't a raccoon. It was the skunk."
August 14: Grandma went to the doctor so I snuck around and washed everything that isn't sewn down, lol. What is it about old people not wanting things like covers and jackets that they wear all the time to be washed? Anyway, I wash all these things and then I try to put them back exactly as they were before. Sometimes she catches me, but usually she either ignores these magically clean and nice smelling things or she really doesn't notice.
Also, I finished The Amber Spyglass this morning. I actually cried my eyes out in the second to last chapter. You were right curiousa2z it was really sad, but in a good way. I wish there was more to the story, like maybe when they are old and gray.. and you know without spoiling it for anyone I won't say anymore, but if anyone's reading this and has read the books you know what I want to happen.
August 15: My frangipani is actually giving me the finger!! I SWEAR IT IS. I can't remember how long ago I said it sprouted what looks kinda like asparagus from the top, well now it's plainly flower buds and one of them sticks way up above the others. It's just sitting there flipping me off, refusing to open
August 16: Finished reading The Telling.. I love Ursula K. Le Guin now. I will find a way to read every book she's ever written IF IT TAKES THE REST OF MY LIFE.
just waved friends off - we went hiking at some huge caves yesterday and I left my camera at home. brilliant.
hung out, eating & drinking & getting caught up.
prolly talking too loudly on the front verandah last night.
8/17 - Ate too much last weekend, ate too much this week. Feeling icky, run down. Need to get life in gear. Considering the possibility of consciously becoming a full-time hermit, as opposed to coincidentally doing it a few days at a time.
A Hermit In New York City.
has best-selling potential.
August 18/07:
last night start of the one annual folk festival I go to...fucking freezing - there was a wind blowing peoples' chairs everywhere, cold air coming in off that bloody bay...I piled on a fleece hoodie over my cotton sweater over my cotton shirt and put my jean jacket across my knees...barely helped. One of the perks of living up by a Great Lake - the weather can be anything. in five minutes. cold is still better than interminable goddamn rain when yer sitting at a concert; that's happened many a year....
Some clever folks had winter jackets and brought blankets...NOTED. I'll leave 'em in the car in case I need 'em.
but the music was great!! and listening to it under the clear starry night is sublime.
Tonight I'll pack a thermos with hot chocolate. and my blankie.
