Vikings acquire second 1st-round pick in trade with Texans
The Minnesota Vikings acquired the Houston Texans' first-round draft pick Friday morning in a trade that could be a precursor to moving further up in the round to select a quarterback to replace departed Kirk Cousins. In the deal, the Vikings acquired the Texans' No. 23 pick along with a seventh-round pick (No. 232 overall). The Texans received the Vikings' second-round pick (No. 42), their sixth-round pick (No. 188) and their second-round pick in 2025. The deal preserved the Vikings' own first-round pick, No. 11, which they could in theory package with the No. 23 pick to move up in the round.
Bears acquire WR Keenan Allen from Chargers for 4th-round pick
The Bears made their biggest splash in free agency Thursday night, sending a fourth-round pick to the Chargers in exchange for wide receiver Keenan Allen, the teams announced. Allen, 31, is entering the final season of the four-year contract extension he signed in 2020 and is due a $5 million roster bonus Sunday. After declining to take a pay cut from the Chargers, he has a new home in the Bears' offense opposite wideout D.J. Moore.
A six-time Pro Bowl selection, Allen will reunite with wide receivers coach Chris Beatty, who coached the same position with the Chargers from 2021 to 2023. Allen caught a career-high 108 passes last season and posted the second-best output of his 11-year career with 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns. It marked the sixth time in Allen's career that he crossed 1,000 receiving yards.
Chicago has four picks remaining in the draft (Nos. 1, 9, 75, and 122 via Philadelphia) after sending one of two fourth-round picks (No. 110) to the Chargers on Thursday. With Allen's departure, Joshun Palmer and Queritin Johnston are the Chargers' top receivers. Los Angeles has the No. 5 pick in the draft, and considering the loaded receiver class, it seems likely that the Chargers will now look at that position.

The Bears have traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Sreelers, the team confirmed in a statement Saturday. The Steelers sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Bears that converts to a fourth-round selection if Fields plays 51% of snaps this season, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Fields, who completed his third season with Chicago in 2023, will join a quarterback room with Russell Wilson, who signed a one-year deal with the Steelers on Friday. Fields is not expected to compete with Wilson for the starting job, a team source told ESPN's Brooke Pryor. Instead, Fields is expected to learn from the Super Bowl winner and nine-time Pro Bowler.
Chicago owns the No. 1 pick in the draft and is the first team of the common draft era to have the draft's top selection one season after trading it. In March 2023, the Bears sent the No. 1 pick to Carolina in exchange for four draft picks -- including the Panthers' 2024 first-rounder -- and wide receiver DJ Moore. Carolina's 2-15 finish in 2023 locked Chicago into the No. 1 spot in the draft order. With Fields off the roster, the Bears are expected to take a quarterback in April's first round. The Bears finished with a 7-10 record in 2023, which netted them the No. 9 pick. Fields' career with the Bears ends after 38 starts, where he completed 60.3% of his passes for 6,674 yards, 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

The San Francisco 49ers have forfeited a 2025 draft choice and were penalized four spots for a selection in this year's draft as a result of administrative payroll accounting errors, the NFL announced Monday. The Niners will give up their original fifth-round choice in the 2025 draft and have their 2024 fourth-round selection move from No. 131 to No. 135.

Giants owner John Mara gives green light to draft quarterback
Even though they signed Daniel Jones to a $160 million deal last year, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll have the green light from ownership to draft a quarterback, if they so desire. The Giants hold the sixth pick in an especially strong quarterback draft. Mara said he has been told by the front office that it's the "most talented group [of quarterbacks] to come out in years." No matter how it plays out, the expectation remains that Jones will be the Giants' Week 1 starter, assuming he's healthy. Schoen said Monday that Jones had begun running on land and there had been no setbacks. Even if the Giants draft a quarterback this year, Mara doesn't view it as giving up on Jones. Schoen mentioned there remains a possibility the Giants move up, back or stay at No. 6. Everything is on the table.
Sources: Eagles sending edge rusher Haason Reddick to Jets
Searching for an edge rusher in the wake of Bryce Huff's departure in free agency, the New York Jets acquired Haason Reddick a trade Friday with the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Jets will send a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Eagles that improves to a 2026 second-rounder if Reddick reaches 67.5% play time and 10 sacks, the sources said. In 2023, Reddick recorded 11 sacks and 38 tackles in 17 games. He played 74% of the defensive snaps.
Basically, the Jets and Eagles swapped edge rushers. Huff, who led the Jets with 10 sacks last season, signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Eagles on Day 1 of free agency. In Reddick, 29, the Jets are getting a proven commodity. He has 50.5 sacks over the past four seasons, the fourth-highest total in the NFL. Reddick and Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett are the only two players to record at least 10 sacks in each of the past four seasons.
