Because the waters of the North Atlantic eventually flow into the SPacific, Obama decided it would be a great idea to make Australia a special member of NATO.
I hope we dont get nuked for this new alliance. Oz does nothing without the US president.

AUSTRALIA will enter a historic partnership with NATO at the group’s summit in Wales this week, giving the Australian Defence Force greater access to the planning and decision-making of the world’s most powerful military alliance.
US President Barack Obama will officially name Australia an enhanced partner of the organisation, recognising the nation’s contribution to NATO operations, particularly Afghanistan, over the past decade.
Membership of NATO’s Enhanced Partnership Program will give Australia permanent access to the organisation’s planning at the earliest stages of future operations and ensure an Australian presence in its governing councils. Sweden, Finland, Jordan and Georgia will also become enhanced partners.

Kinda serious news for a bunch of bullshit 80's propaganda ;)

Nato is to create a 4,000-strong "spearhead" high-readiness force that can be deployed rapidly in eastern Europe and the Baltic states to help protect member nations against potential Russian aggression, according to Nato officials.

Leaders from the 28 Nato countries are expected to approve the plan at the alliance's summit in Wales when the Ukraine crisis tops the agenda on Friday.

The Nato secretary-general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said the force, drawn on rotational basis from Nato allies, could be in action at "very, very short notice".

Rasmussen described it as a mixture of regular troops and special forces that could "travel light but strike hard". It would be supported by air and naval forces as needed.

He declined to say how many troops would be engaged but Nato officials said it would number around 4,000 and would be expected to deploy to any alliance member country within 48 hours..

"It is so that we are ready should something nasty happen," a senior Nato official said.

You know, whenever I play RISK I always go to great lengths to acquire (and then solidify and defend) Australia. I almost always win the game if I can do that ;)
 
Appreciated Jax - we are seen as something for the world to use and consume and then throw away. The latest developments have given uranium to India who supplies Iran, which is why it hasnt been done in the past. Russsia has avoided this situation along with everyone else, but US and Oz go right ahead and give Iran access to highest grade Uranium available.

NATO is a massive circle jerk for the arms industry. They were almost pointless until Ukraine, and they then made the situation much worse. I wish they didn't exist, the UN has the mandate and they don't bow down to the arms industry as much.

Sure, but you have the cleanest ocean waters around. The green lipped mussel (perna caniliculus) is the richest natural source of chondroitin sulfate and is a major export in your area. When I sold for Food Science this was a flagship product for them and they have a patent on that mechanism. The NZ shellfish are the only raw material used in the product. And it worked on human osteoarthritis better than the bullshit shark preparations being made at the time.

I wonder about this also. It's obvious what Russia is up to, yet everyone keeps avoiding the obvious. Must be all those silos they're after.

To be honest I havnt paid much attention to them in the past other than being Europe's muscle and their taunts with Libya, but I better do some light reading now im a tax paying advanced member or whatever ...

A man convinced against his will is of his own opinion still. There is a huge difference between resistance and aggression. We as a nation recognize that line quite clearly because we frequently hop over it to meet our greeds ERRRRR needs.
 
Iran was our full ally in the past. We have played sand nigger roulette since the end of ww2 with all those fucks.
