I Answer All Questions About LOST

The mystery, combined with engaging characters whom you care about, despite their flaws. Not all of it works, but enough works to keep you coming back.

Lost question:

Why do you like that show so much?

It's different. It's engaging, and it makes me think. Not many shows do that.

Take the CSI series. The original one is the only one worth a damn. Miami and NYC are rather two-dimensional.

I like Lost because they don't spoonfeed me. I might have to watch several episodes before a certain something makes sense, and I find that aspect entertaining.

Good thread, but before I get involved in the discussion I want to know how CU can be such a big fan with black people in the show being treated like equals and not being called niggers by all the white people. Surely that ruins an otherwise good show?!

Please explain.

Well, your fierce opposement to those of african decent is pretty well documented on the site. You don't hold them in the highest opinion, do you? So -and honest question here- does that factor in to a show that is/was Eko centric for example.

Oh, I see. This is an antifa attempt to stir trouble rather than a legitmate question.

Well, let's see if I can make some rational sense out of your question. Lemons/lemonade, and all that.

First, your question is flawed. Lost is not centered around blacks. In fact, if you've paid attention, blacks on this show don't fare well. Eko is dead, Michael and Walt are no longer on the show, and Rose is typically regarded by many fans as one of the least interesting of the survivors. In the Others' camp, I've seen two blacks; one is relegated to "stepping and fetching," while the other is currently missing in action.

In fact, Lost is amazingly Euro-centric. I've actually not thought of that before. Thanks for pointing that out. Perhaps that's one reason I find it so attractive.

Did you like Eko's character?

Eko as a character had potential that I think was squandered. Additionally, it's rumored that Adewale Akinneoye Agbaje is notoriously difficult to get along with on the set, and I think that translated into his character quite a bit. It's almost impossible for an actor not to let some of his personality leak into his character.

I heard he was in character all the time so was completley anti-social on set, yes.

Still, he was a good character and he did bring a lot of intensity to the role. I am still on 3x06 since I've been busy and have let my schedule slide. I'll probably get up to date tonight though since there is nothing better to do and a pizza and a couple of beers and a short Lost marathon sounds appealing.

My question? -

Do you believe thee is another faction on the island? We saw that guy with the eyepatch (I don't know if this has been expanded upon in the new episodes) and I think it's pretty clear he wasn't one of the Others. Also, it takes me back to the "we're the good guys" line from Ben at the end of season 2. I think there is another force on the island. Why else would the Others have been so heavily armed and have so many safe-guards in place already?

Until we learn more about the Others we've seen and their ability or inability to leave the island, any thoughts of mine concerning other factions would be sheer speculation. I'm earnestly waiting for more revelation as to whether Ben's Others can actually leave this area and if they have any longterm contact with the outside world beyond maybe great satellite TV.

We saw that guy with the eyepatch (I don't know if this has been expanded upon in the new episodes) and I think it's pretty clear he wasn't one of the Others.

Since "Patch" and "Jacob" were introduced virtually within one episode of each other, I speculate they're one and the same. Therefore, I claim Patch/Jacob is the leader of the Others, and Ben is his "project coordinator" for lack of a better phrase.

Also, it takes me back to the "we're the good guys" line from Ben at the end of season 2. I think there is another force on the island. Why else would the Others have been so heavily armed and have so many safe-guards in place already?

If I were forced to speculate on this "other faction" business... and lots of fans do... I would say the Others under Jacob are in rebellion against the bulk of the DI due to Mittelwerk's plan to introduce a supervirus in India... and if you haven't had the Lost Experience from last summer, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about there.

I've seen the web based stuff that was compiled about the DI. Is that the same as the Lost Experience?

I'm just finishing 3x08 as I write this. It's been a good episode (despite the quaint way London is portrayed) and it does seem to be reinforcing some heavy sci-fi elements with Desmond going back in time. Who/what do you think the old lady was who seemed to be acting as some sort of Oracle? And do you think that despite what has been formerly speculated upon that the shows answers are all within the realm of at least high-concept Sci-Fi (not too far from real world stuff) is being turned on its head here and we may be looking at something either supernatural or possibly alien?

I've got to say, I don't fancy either of those outcomes. They both seem hokey unless it's done in a really clever way.

I thought Lost started sluggishly this season but it's definitley picking up for business now. With shows like Heroes moving at breakneck speed and garnering a lot of fans the producers must be feeling the heat to actually get the pace picked up a bit. I think another major layer is being peeled off right now and we're quite near to some serious shit in terms of some of the big threads being tied up.

Once I get through the latest episode I need to do some forum crawling and get upto date on some of the new theories.

Basically. You can go to Youtube and look for Dharma or Rachel Blake and find all the video clips. It's worth watching just to get some interesting insights.

Depends. If the flashbacks were nothing more than a hallucination/dream by Desmond while he was unconcious, then the jewelry lady was probably nothing more than a manifestation of his subconcious. If he somehow slipped back into time while out then... first, where was the Desmond that was supposed to be there already... the lady may be some sort of control mechanism (remember that Ol' Smoky can change forms) that links him to the events of the island to keep him from slipping off... much like the brakes on an automobile. I'm really torn as to which.

And do you think that despite what has been formerly speculated upon that the shows answers are all within the realm of at least high-concept Sci-Fi (not too far from real world stuff) is being turned on its head here and we may be looking at something either supernatural or possibly alien?
The producers are on record as saying everything is explainable within the science we have now (for example, the wireless tazers that came about in 2003 but the general public seems to be ignorant of their existence), but I'm wondering if they're actually lumping in that shadowy borderland between hard science and speculation based upon what he now know. For instance, we know that high gravity can warp time, but we can only speculate on how this would work and what the effects would be on a person caught up in such an event, at least for now.

I personally don't mind a little speculative science thrown in so long as it's done well and not embarassing. No Doctor Who timetunnels, please.
