LOL... are you afraid you lose your crown to some karma whore? You know that ain't gonna happen anytime soon
Now seriously: I can see your POV, but maybe since I haven't been at TK that long, I am just used to that stuff, so it doesn't stand out for me. At the end, isn't it a question of perspective what we deem meaningless tripe? Isn't allowing any kind of meaningless tripe one part of TK's *cough* charm? But anyway, this particular discussion doesn't solve anything, so I'll just say Hey, that's, like, your opinion, man!

Maybe so, but I see a lack of Karma as a way of getting people to communicate properly. I guess in the long run it doesn't make all that much difference, but I'd rather see a thread of conversation than a post with 10 several-word long comments under it. At least ask people to use a bit of brainpower when they choose to respond to something.
I can see what you mean, and if you think that doing away with karma will do the trick, hey, I won't whine (much) when y'all decide to give it a try. Unfortunately, I really doubt that you can bring people to suddenly use brainpower when they haven't voluntarily done so before...

They do make people lazy. You have limited space to type a comment. It gets in the way of serious threads, where you can hammer in a snippy comment rather than post in a manner that would ask one to utilize a little thought first.
Of course, you could just quote the post and type the exact same thing. As I've said in this thread before, I'm not necessarily against a comment system - just the idea that points are attached to it.
Oh, OK, that's different then. No point defending something you don't attack
(Although I
had prepared a nice, long speech about the virtue and fun of snippy comments....)

The little bar, the points: these turn it into a competition for many, as opposed to a system of adding comment. That's what has affected the board as a majority, as opposed to simply having a comments system. That's what has made people lazy.
The fact there there's effectively a ranking system, creates status. Thereby if effects the behaviour of the board as a whole. For instance, the DLA shite wouldn't have happened if there were no points, or no positive or negative ranking added to Karma comments. The board would have had one less forum full of shit (The Badlands effectively rose out of the 'home' given to DLA duals), less duals, less hassle.
Take it from me. Remove the points. Remove the coloured bar. Remove the problem. What can you do with a comment under a post other than read it and take it at face value?
I wholeheartedly agree. I don't care for the points, getting them was fun for me, it even gave me a chance to start a thread when I was new, and get acquainted with people. But ranking or status symbols of any sort I do not like, so yep, I am all for removing the point system, if it's possible without losing the comment option (~sigh).
