Star Trek 13 News/Countdown Thread

I read a few articles about it and they all suggested Edgar Wright or Joe Cornish would be lined up instead. What's with all the British comedy blokes? I like them both but unless the movie was a comedy like TVH I don't think they'd be at all suited to it.
 
He did. And Edgar Wright's movies have a lot of action too.

But if they don't change the release date I don't know how either of them could direct it. I mean Edgar Wright couldn't make Ant-Man work after years of developing it (or that could have been Marvel being totally unreasonable.)

And if the reported story is true (humans and Vulcans fighting over a time travel device!) then they need more time to write a new script too.
 
I don't think Marvel were being unreasonable, just as it stood the film would not have fit in with the other movies, and they have built up such a good momentum, they don't to put something out that clashes too much with what they already have out there, and what is still to come.

I've never watched a Fast And Furious movie (not that I think I'm too smart for them, just can't be bothered) but of course I've seen the Community episode's he's directed (Modern Warfare!) so that's something. He apparently "saved" the F&F franchise and Paramount are hoping he'll do the same thing here. At least he's someone who's directed successful movies and isn't Bob Orci.

On the other hand this confirms it's going to be a total over the top crazy action movie. Will it be one with a good story too? I have my doubts!
 
Point taken. I guess Lucas lost the right to steep the ship after that.

But trusting it to someone else seems like jumping out of the frying pan into the sarlacc.
 
Well Lucas chose to sell Star Wars. It wasn't like Disney were just going to say "well we own Star Wars now LET'S NOT MAKE ANY MONEY OUT OF IT LOL." (Disney love money.)

You know if they're doing the "race for at time machine" plot hiring the Fast and Furious guy makes sense. Because of it being a "race" you see. Like in the Fast and Furious movies. Cars. Driving fast. And furious.

You see.
 
They will just remake star trek IV, word for word, except now it will be a double dumb fuck.

And Gillian Taylor will be Michelle Rodregas, and she will fall for Uhura.

And Shatner will be the "I didnt see anything, and neither did you" guy
 
I wanted Frakes for obvious reasons but I don't have a problem with Justin Lin. I don't pretend to know fuck all about him but just because he was the director of the F&F films doesn't mean much in relation to how he will deal with a Trek film. The studios care mostly about having highly efficient Directors that are easy to work with in place for these summer blockbusters. I'm more concerned about having a story that isn't just summer fair fluff.
 
So Orci isn't even writing it anymore.

What's funny is watching the TrekBBS posters go from "IT'S A GREAT IDEA TO HAVE ORCI DIRECTING THE MOVIE, PARAMOUNT WON'T FIRE HIM THAT'S JUST SITES TRYING TO GET HITS" to "UMM, WELL, ORCI OBVIOUSLY KNEW HE'D BE BETTER CONCENTRATING ON WRITING IT, PARAMOUNT MUST HAVE A LOT OF FAITH IN HIS SCRIPT" to "UHHH ORCI'S PROBABLY STILL WRITING IT EVEN THOUGH HE SAYS HE ISN'T OKAY IT'S ALL PART OF HIS PLAN."
