Star Trek Discovery

So if Tyler is any indication, they talk like 'tards because... they just talk like 'tards. I thought the mushmouth nonsense was just because their stupid faces are stupidly built different. But nope. They sound weird, stupid, and mushmouth regardless.

The Stamets guy has acted on the stage a lot so maybe he’s still performing to the back row. I find him a bit off too, though it was worse at the beginning when he was being a dick all the time. The last scene with him and Hugh was really good anyway. I loved the slightly bitchy tone of the line “oh, the other you deserved it”.

It was a good episode, but way too short. They could’ve easily found more material to go over. We never even really got Michaels reaction to Tyler being Klingon.

I’d wavered on Lorca bring from the mirror universe. There were so many clues and it made so much sense that I thought they’d been bluffing and he really was just a flawed human from our universe. I guess that means no Jason Isaacs in season 2. What’s with them killing off half the cast in the first season. Michael, Tilly and Saru are the only main characters who haven’t been killed or turned out to be imposters.

On that front, at least Tyler will be somehow back in season 2. Dunno where the Klingon lady got all her soul swapping gloves from. Don’t remember her carrying luggage.

Maybe they will find the real Lorcas somewhere and he will be a bit of a jerk, also.

Well, that's Lorca gone. I always thought the thing with his character is that, while he did evil things, he wasn't totally evil and had a bit of depth. But maybe that was just Jason Isaacs inserting depth, or I wanted to see depth because I like Jason Isaacs. This week he just went completely evil, and it was a lot of fun because, again, Jason Isaacs. But it feels like there's going to be a pretty big void without him (and what future can Tyler/Voq have on the show? He wasn't even mentioned this week.)

On the other hand, hot damn that was entertaining in terms of action and visuals and directing. They must really be spending a lot of money on this because that was probably one of the best looking episodes of Star Trek ever. There were some good Star Trek-ish moments too, even, like Michael telling Lorca that they would have helped him get home if he'd just asked and Saru stepping up and being a good Captain. So yeah, best episode of Discovery ever which I know some will thinking isn't saying much but no one can say it was boring anyone (unless someone does.)

I wouldn’t rank it as the best episode as I have prefered some of the slower episodes which have found more time to explore the characters. Having said that it was a very entertaining finale, with some great actors who were playing to their strengths, some nifty ideas and a decent cliffhanger.

I hoped they’d give Michelle Yeoh an action scene and they didn’t disappoint. Neither did she. Couldn’t tell if she keeps herself very fit or if that was mostly a stunt woman.

Lorca fell into the giant midiclorian bubble, so they can always use that as an excuse to bring him back somehow. It’s like being in the Nexus.

I hope they don’t spend too long in the future trying to get back/win the war, or we’ll never see an episode that’s just a nice self contained planet of the week drama. I do appreciate the continuing story, but it would be nice to have some old fashioned sci-fi tales that explore new ideas.

I wonder what they have planned for Georgiou. She doesn’t really fit in our universe. Maybe there’ll be some Yesterday’s Enterprise style sacrifice to get Discovery back in time and kill her off. I love Michelle Yeoh being in the show, but the characters a loose end now.

Georgiou has a moon door! The fight scene in the throne room was so intense. I loved it.

Did you see the spore land on Tilly's shoulder and kind of absorb into her? WHAT WILL THAT DO?

Of all the mirror universe ST episodes I've seen, I like Discovery's the best.

Georgiou will probably do something terrible that kills all the klingons everywhere, so they have to go back in time to reset history, and when the klingons discover the humans saved them, it gives them a chance to have a ceasefire with honour.

Yes, I was incorrect and there are actually 15 episodes. I’m used to shows having 12 or 13 so assumed this did too. Glad I was wrong! They have time to fix everything and then have a few standalone episodes next season.

I still don't get what the fuck Tyler is meant to be? Isn't he a Klingon who was altered to be human? But now they're acting like he actually is the real Tyler and they've got rid of his Klingon half. So is he a Klingon and human who were merged together, like a Tuvix? It's weird.

100 AU wouldn't actually be very far away from Earth, would it? Since 1 AU is the distance between Earth and the sun.

Were they pretending to the crew that the Empress is the real Georgiou? And, umm, why? I understand pretending to scare the Klingons (or something) but what's the point in fooling the crew (and don't a lot of them know who she is anyway?)

It's a weird show.

The first thing you have to do with this show is dismiss the idea that it is related to Star Trek in any way, shape, or form beyond the title card. After that, none of it has to make any kind of sense, and that way -- when it doesn't make any kind of sense -- you don't feel disappointed.

It's a weird show.

Yeah. The writing on this show is all over the damned place. Many times there are complete contradictions within single episodes. No clue about what the Tyler/Voq thing is all about anymore because they've changed the story at least 4 times.

It's just odd. I don't think they have a clue what they're doing and if they did it all got lost in rewrites and bad editing. And now "Captain" Georgiou, eh? *sigh*
