"True Grit", the 2011 remake.

I liked it, actually, I gave it a 9/10. Even my dad, who thought he'd be complaining the whole time out of nostalgia for the original, said he liked it.

Tron: Legacy 3D

I absolutely loved this movie. I was gripped to it throughout the whole thing. I really couldn't see any glaring continuity holes, or gaping errors in the storyline, and I loved the special effects. Boxleitner and Bridges looked like they made the movie in 1985 rather than 2010.

You have a chance to see this in the theater before its gone, DO SO. You won't regret it.

I'm trying to see a few more of the Oscar-nominated films. Got Winter's Bone in my Neftlix, True Grit's at the drive-in, and I think my sis and I are gonna go see The King's Speech.

Red

Meh. Could have been bloodier, but with a PG-13 rating, not much you can do. And Mary Louise Parker looked like she'd had bad plastic surgery on her face.

5/10

Megamind

As much as I was bored and sickened by marketing crammed into Despicable Me, I liked Megamind.

8/10

The Rite

It was okay. With a PG-13 rating, I wasn't expecting a lot of scares. I'll give it a 4/10.

Saw it this morning.

It was interesting to look at. It was reminiscent of "The Exorcist" from the Exorcist's POV. One scene was a bit shocking. I totally did not expect that. The rest of it was predictable and, quite frankly, given away in the trailer. However, I'll give it a little bit higher rating - a 7/10. The reason for that being I liked getting such a great look at Rome. I liked the feeling of being there on the edge of Vatican City - maybe not in the inner sanctum but what it must look like to the majority of the persons who spend their daily religious work lives in Vatican City.

To those that have seen the movie, I would ask the question: "Do you think Father Lucas was possessed or did he con Michael Kovak into becoming a believer?"

The Tourist with Jhonny Depp and Angela Jolie

Twas really good :techman:

The Runaways, with that former child actress and that other one. Joan Jett's early history biopic. The actress playing Jett was spooky similar in voice and appearance, and the others were also close to the best of my recollection, but the movie had surprisingly little focus for a story with so many potential angles. There was the teen lesbian angle that got very little attention, the spiral into drug use that was so bland and watered down it might as well had been an ABC afterschool special, a questionable problematic relationship with their manager that was severely underplayed, and other interesting characters like Lita Ford were ignored altogether. Even the basic premise of girls trying to break into a male-dominated hard rock world was drastically underplayed. I really wanted to love this movie, it just never found a path and stayed on it long enough to tell a story.

At the end I saw Joan Jett was an executive producer, which probably explains a lot of the sugarcoatings. People should never be allowed to do their own life stories with creative control. We all want to smooth out our own sharpest edges.

I'd say 4/10 at best, if you're a huge fan and simply must see it. But otherwise pass.

Sanctum

5/10
It did not need to be in 3-D. It was interesting, kind of gripping and WTF at times. The best part was laying on the seats afterwards because no one was in the theater.

Inner Sanctumin 3D (only option)

I originally went to the theater to see The Green Hornet. I remember that TV show being very popular when I was a kid. I don't remember what the show was about just that it was very popular.

Anyway, I changed my mind at the last minute at went to see Inner Sanctum instead.

Bad move.

First, the sound wasn't of the best quality and most of the actors had such thick accents I could hardly understand what they were saying.

Second, the plot was overwhelmingly formulaic. Except, in the past few cave movies I've seen, monsters came out of the dark and the water and were very scary. It would have been nice to have some monsters in this movie to liven it up some.

The scenes showing some of the native people really didn't serve a purpose. The set up of the conflict of man against nature was a bit implausible and was an obvious convenient element to make the storytelling fit the formula.

I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone with claustrophia. I'm mildly claustrophic and spent the entire movie tensed up on the edge of my seat - and not because I was really into the movie.

The 3D effects were poorly placed. The work was done well but a few times the actor appeared to be standing right in front of my face and slightly to the right, off screen. It was a distracting special effect.

It wasn't totally void of anything of interest. The scenery before entering the cave and the aerial views of the cave were good. And, the parting shot was a physical relief.

I rate it a C-.

127 hours is a much more intense "Man vs. Nature" movie. James Franco for the win, AND the oscar IMO.

Green Hornet

We know what to expect thanks to the trailers and there is the reputation of the old TV show and the iconic Bruce Lee to live up to. Some of the plot points and necessary accessories are a bit dated. Some of the foreshadowing lacked finesse. However, even with its flaws, this movie is a fun ride. The two male leads are fun and work well together.

Usually I complain about the fight scenes because they are ridiculously over the top.
However, the whole audience, including me, just laughed and enjoyed the big ass fight between Kato and Britt. It was great.

The cars are great.
The gas gun was a hoot.
Kato was awesome.
Britt/Green Hornet was perfect.

A tad violent, lots of explosives, guns, killing bad guys, etc.... Recommended especially for the dads with sons - Donovan and Consumer.

I could see some more of this.

Didn't watch this in 3D but it might be worth it.

Give it a big A.

Would give it a plus but it isn't original - just dang good.

Ghost Rider

5/5

Nicholas Cage and Eva Mendez were both Awsome. It was good to see two of my Favorite actors working so well together!

Knight and Day 2/5.

A romantic comedy with little of either, Tom Cruises character always treats the "dangerous" situations as being of so little concern, that the audience starts to treat it the same way.

The point of an action film is that the star is always in danger, always on the edge of being killed, you just never feel that, especially with most of the larger stunts using oddly flat looking CGI, I mean its so nearly good, but this sort of film could have been so much better 20 years ago when they blew up real cars, and used real bulls.

Its all very well Tom saying he does all his own stunts, well sure, I reckon I could hold onto the roof of a car in front of a blue screen too.

Oscar edition:

Already reviewed The Social Network a couple of pages back, I think I like it more now than I did before.

Black Swan

Natalie should win the Oscar. And Barbara Hershey looks GREAT, thank you! But the movie is a silly mess. We know what the 'twist' is 10 minutes into the movie, and just mark time from that point waiting for the inevitable 'arty' conclusion. It was a good short film that got stretched out to a sloppy feature.

The King's Speech

Colin Firth deserves the Oscar. And it's a very well-made film, and the central relationship is fascinating without being too sentimental. But it's a bare-bones traditional Brit epic biopic. It should win in another year, but for some reason I want The Social Network to win because it was lightning in a bottle, where the right people got together at just the right time and made a movie that can never be imitated.

The Kids Are Alright

Almost sterotypiocal Indie Film™ (which means that Mark Ruffalo has to appear in it as a loveable slob). Performances were great (especially the kids), Bening was excellent and nuanced in her own flaky way. Moore was good, but it looked like the director spent all his time with Bening and Moore had to fend for herself. Good flick, glad I saw it, but it wasn't a Best Picture.

Watched some movies on Netflix last night.

Valhalla Rising
Slowest, weirdest movie I've seen in a long time.

Arn: The Templar Knight
This is a really good foreign film, epic in story, beautiful in cinematography, lots of layers and textures in the characters and scenery. My idea of an A+ movie.

Ooooh...but I loved Vahalla Rising. Might be because I was slightly tripping when I watched it. Plus, you gotta love the Mads!!! ;)
