With the 2023 season in the books, it's time to look ahead with ESPN's Way-Too-Early WNBA Power Rankings for 2024. Next season, the WNBA also must manage the monthlong break for the Paris Olympics, making 2024 even more of a test of endurance. The Aces passed all their tests in 2023, and they project to start next season where they left off this one: No. 1.

Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi to headline USA Basketball exhibitions
Brittney Griner and Diana Tauasi headline USA Basketball's roster for its upcoming exhibitions against college teams as well as November training camp, it was announced Thursday. Griner and Taurasi, who turned 41 in June and is a five-time Olympic gold medalist, will join Kahleah Cooper, Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Sabrina Ionescu and Azura Stevens on the roster for both college exhibitions. It will be the first USA Basketball competition for Griner, a two-time Olympian, since her nearly nine-month detainment in Russia last year.

Aces celebrate 2nd WNBA championship, say more are on the way
The Las Vegas Aces celebrated their second consecutive WNBA championship Monday night on the Strip and said they aren't done. The Aces became the first WNBA team in 21 years to win back-to-back titles, defeating the New York Liberty in four games. Las Vegas won the 2022 title in four games against the Connecticut Sun. The Aces made it clear from the front office to the players they weren't ready to stop, and Las Vegas has the kind of roster to make these parades a regular ritual.

Mercury's Brittney Griner wins WNBA community service award
Griner was recognized for her work with Bring Our Families Home, a campaign that helps spread awareness about wrongfully detained Americans around the world in hopes of helping them return, and the BG Heart and Sole Shoe Drive, which Griner began in 2016 and which brought in almost 3,000 pairs of shoes this season. Griner won the monthly WNBA Cares Community Assist Award in June, as well.

Commissioner: Consideration of WNBA expansion to Portland on hold
Portland was believed to be well on its way to joining Golden State as an expansion franchise, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne last month, though plans had not been finalized. Portland previously had a WNBA team, the Fire, which competed from 2000 to 2002.
WNBA draft lottery set for Dec. 10
A 30-minute draft lottery special will air at 4:30 p.m. ET between the last two games of the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase tripleheader that day. The draft is scheduled for April 15.

All-America wrestler Lucas Davison from Michigan and Big 12 champion wrestler Stephen Buchanan from Oklahoma are among a new class of 14 athletes signed by WWE to its name, image and likeness program. WWE's fourth class of NIL athletes includes the two wrestlers, five track and field athletes, two gymnasts and the promotion's first signees in baseball (Adam Berghorst from Indiana State) and cheerleading (Slane Glover from Ohio State). The group includes eight men and six women, and it has representatives from 13 schools and 10 NCAA leagues. WWE has signed 60 college athletes from 15 different sports to its "Next In Line" NIL program since December 2021. Indiana Fever again land No. 1 overall pick in WNBA draft lottery
For the second year in a row, the Indiana Fever will have the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft. The Fever, who picked South Carolina's Aliyah Boston in 2023, won the 2024 WNBA draft lottery on Sunday and have the first selection on April 15. The Los Angeles Sparks, Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm will have the Nos. 2-4 picks in the draft. Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark is the projected No. 1 pick in ESPN's most recent mock draft. But like several other potential draftees, Clark is eligible to return for a fifth college season in 2024-2025 because of the COVID-19 waiver. Lottery odds were based on the cumulative records of the past two WNBA regular seasons (2022 and 2023).
