wtf exisle?

I disagree. We should feel sadness that they did bad things, but we have no reason to feel guilt. We should feel guilty if we by commission or omission help to perpetrate injustice. However this is due to direct action or inaction involving us, not events which happened centuries before we were born.

I would clarify -
"not feel guilt over events in which I did not participate and over which I had no control."

Just out of curiosity, I looked up languages on ATM machines in Canada.

I found a site for "The Exchange - the Only No Fee ATM Network in Canada." The languages are: English, French, Chinese, Punjabi, and Italian. Why not Spanish also? Or, maybe Spanish is an option on other ATM networks. Anyone know?

"ATM Machine" is a redundancy!!!!!!1111111oneoneoneeleven

For fuck's sake! "Machine" is implied by the M in the acronym. Automated Teller Machine!

point one: the term "half-black" was introduced only after Eloisel included it at the end of a list of things apparently deemed as negatives. I have not yet felt the need to categorize any of our presidents as half-this or half that, just as "the president" as befits the office. The only exception would be the retarded one that came before, and that was mainly due to his own repeated public displays of stupidity. So I ask again: why was it so important to note that Obama is half-black? Is this one of those goofy arguments like Jack and Conchaga used, that you want the right to call everyone half-black and it just coincidentally happens that Obama, the guy you labelled as such, has mixed parentage? Are some of your best friends black/latino/paki/gay/eskimo/venusian etc?

lol bigoted post is bigoted, and retroactively pretending it was just a troll is not only disengenuous but also insults the intelligence of the others on this thread and this board.

point two: does anyone else appreciate the irony that this thread would have received any number of cool-its, warnings and bannings several pages ago had it occured on Ex Isle? LMAO...

In order to insult one's intelligence, one must first possess it.

And, yes, it is an easy enough troll for this non-troll. It never ceases to give me the giggles to see which posters here that go absolutely ballistic over opinions that are not politically correct, accepted, main stream, and popular.

And, no, both of my best friends are happily married men, both white. Their wives are good friends of mine too. Simon's wife is from England and they both possess dual citizenship. Robert's wife is from Ireland. Robert is a red head with big red freckles and he is very tall. Simon has dark blonde hair that he perms and he is very tall but a little portly. Robert and I worked together, our desks side by side, in publishing for 10 years. Simon is a movie producer. He gets to travel to cool places, do cool things and make movies.

I had a brief romance with a young man while I was in Mexico City one summer. His name was Fernando. He had studied at an American university and when we met on the street he asked me to dinner so he could practice his English. We had a good time, dinner led to a tour of the country, dancing under the stars on the balcony of a mountainside nightclub, and he was a perfect gentleman. A wonderful memory that does not make me blush.

Growing up in this university town, with students from all over the world, I dated quite a few young men from other countries. For some reason the Saudis and Pakistanis are attracted to me, which is strange because I am not a submissive type female.

Never dated an Eskimo but I have processed the paper work for an Aleutian Islander to start work at a place I was employed once upon a time.

My first ex-husband is Cherokee. My second ex-husband is a bastard. In case you are interested, he is all white on the outside with a very black heart. I call him Satan.

One of my frequent travel companions is Chinese, born and raised in America but travels to China frequently to teach English for a year or two at a time.

I do have some friends that are gay. I know them because my daughter, before she was married, was bi-sexual. I liked her previous girl friends. Many of her friends came to parties at the house and we've remained friendly although my daughter is married to a male, whom she will divorce one of these days.

My neighbor directly across the street is Mexican. Roberto speaks quite a bit of English even though he was not born in America and he is ever trying to improve his language skills. He is self-employed and I hire him to do work around my house because he is good, I know him, and he gives me a good price for the excellent work he does. I also refer him to everyone I know because he is good, honest, and reasonably priced as well as insured.

Wally, my neighbor across the street and next door to Roberto, is black. Wally is married to a woman who lives in another state and comes down to visit about once a month. Wally is always cooking out in his backyard and he invites me over to have brisket with him.

There is a Korean church behind my house. We are not friends. They are not friendly. The children that attend that church are cruel to animals. The church did want to buy my house once to turn it into a parsonage for their pastor. I made them put up an 8 ft wooden privacy fence instead.

I am of immigrant ancestry - Armenian, English, French and Irish. I am fair skinned with freckles, beautiful curly hair, and very green eyes.

If you think being distinguished as a "half-black" person is a bigoted remark, then that is your problem, not mine.

I do not like Obama, and I have made it clear before why. He is pro-abortion as a method of birth control. I am not.

OMG zzezez I did not mean to insult your tender intelligence. How will you survive? Please, explain, in Spanish written in Korean.

Oh for fuck's sake, is this the reason you don't like him? At this point, the entire fucking abortion debate is pointless, stupid and insanely hypocritical that to hinge your dislike of Obama on this issue just smacks of stupidity when there are a slew of other things you can dislike him for.

Using abortion as a contraceptive is stupid and irresponsible, yes, particularly when there are better methods to prevent conception in the first place. However, given the conservative wing would largely prefer an abstinence-based curriculum for sexual education and enforces this in many states, we end up with many people who are not ready to, who shouldn't breed doing so, without the knowledge, desire to prevent a pregnancy and won't and can't communicate about anything sexual and girls wind up pregnant. What do they do at this point? Our culture's stigma about sex leaves them in a rough spot -- the taboo around talking about it might have left them without access to the resources; now there's a baby kicking the inside of their gut. Do they carry to term and stay straddled with the heavy financial and time constraints and burden to raise this child? If so, do they even have the support of the father? Do they adopt out? Or do they abort? For many women in this position, none of the options are good.
Adoption may be the best option, but it's a crapshoot getting the baby into a good home; real life isn't like Juno. More likely, foster homes will be the reality.
Raising the child, even with the father to help, can sink them (deeper) into poverty, draining public moneys through social services.
And abortion... any conservative worth their salt will say why that's bad.

But here's why I don't like the abortion debate: Hypocrisy runs on both sides of the debate and they form the fore-front of the media coverage. Supporters are keen to 'protect womens' rights' and turn around and decry a war. Opponents spout the 'sanctity of life' and turn around and attack and kill abortion doctors and attend the latest war rally. Obviously, not all supporters or detractors fall in these extremes; enough of it does occur that it's tiring. And Citizen Ruth highlights the fallacy to a T.

You don't like abortion as a contraceptive? Great. I hope you support a complete sexual education curriculum so abortion isn't used as a contraceptive and I hope you don't support the war. Obama supports this? Shame on him then, but really I'm more concerned with the other things he's not doing, like closing Guantanamo and ending the fucking wars that are eating our economy for breakfast. The entire abortion debate has become a long, over-drawn farce that lost its appeal after Roe vs. Wade was decided.

A side note: What the fuck's with this thread? It'd gone from poking a stick at ExIsle to comparing Lonaf/WordForge to the economy, immigrants snatching jobs and to fucking abortion. Damn, for a moment I thought we were in Armchair Philosophies.

Well, for fuck's sake, comparing abortion to war is stupid.

Especially in this day and age, the Americans who are in a war made the choice that put them there. The unborn child has no choice.

Death penalty and abortion do not equate either. The person facing the death penalty made the choice that put them there. The unborn child has no choice.

And, yes, I do support education on how to prevent unwanted pregnancies. I also support nurturing children so that they become caring persons who would not murder their babies or abandon them because they are inconvenient. Teaching our children that being reckless and uncaring is okay because they can just abort certainly doesn't teach them anything about the sanctity of life or respect for other people. If it is okay to murder their unborn children, then it is certainly okay for them to go out and murder other people, fight in wars, treat other people with no regard at all.

And, yes, I can dislike Obama for his stance on abortion. I have that right. I don't like abortion used as birth control. It isn't a farce. It isn't funny. I don't fight Roe v. Wade simply because women would just go back to getting illegal abortions. It isn't the law that has to change but the reckless attitude of people towards life.

This is the thing about war. Them that will war will always find someone who will war with them.

This is the thing about people who commit crimes that are heinous enough that they receive the death penalty - they did not respect other people's right to life so they forfeited their own.

This is the thing about an unborn child - they didn't ask for those people to be their biological parents, it isn't their fault, they didn't do it, and nobody asks them if they'd just rather call it quits.

Something else to keep in mind - just because a person had two parents that wanted a child and could afford to have a child at some point in their life does not mean that the child will have a perfect, carefree childhood. It is always a crap shoot. Always. And, if you were one of the fortunate ones that has had it all good and groovy, then good for you.

In fact, it is just plain fooking stupid to whine about death penalties and wars and be pro-abortion. Either you are against killing or killing for specific reasons, or you aren't. I'm against killing innocents and for those that aren't innocent, they reap what they sow.

And, the thing with the thread ... before worrying "WTF Exisle" about racism, maybe some should "WTF TK" about racism. The susequent discussion on abortion is just a bonus.

eloisel he's not pro abortion as a method of birth control, he's pro choice. There's a huge difference. I think if you talk to pro choice people (me for example) you'll find they think abortion is morally wrong (I do) but that it's up to the mother to choose, at least during early pregnancy. I'm against allowing "partial birth" abortions unless the mother's life is in danger or it's shown that the child is so catastrophically damaged that there is zero chance of real life. Otherwise imo at that stage, the mother can give the baby up for adoption or something because she had plenty of time earlier to choose to terminate the pregnancy.

Again: pro choice does NOT automatically equate to pro abortion.

I started to read this, really, but it was painful to watch you squirm. At some point I said whoop de fucking do and switched off. Grumpy old crazy lady is grumpy. You still haven't answered the original question in all this blathering and defending what are essentially hostile and xenophobic views on the world at large and your unfortunate neighbors who have to deal with you:

Why, when you posted your original list of things that made the country in chaos, did you feel compelled to note that Obama was half-black?

You didn't say "abortion-loving president."

You didn't say "health care hippie president."

You didn't say "tax and spend drive our country into the ground liberal muslim hugger apologist president."

You said, "Half-black." As if that fact were somehow pertinent to be included on your list of things that are currently wrong with our country.

Frankly I could give a shit about your political views. As a pragmatist I recognize that the doings of Washington affect my daily life only in superficial ways at best, and I find plenty of causes in my own back yard that require attention without me digging up other stupid shit to be "for" or "against." Further, since I strongly suspect most of your views were spoonfed you by an O Reilly or a Limbaugh, et al, I can safely dismiss them as the rantings of imbeciles who are in the business of making money by raking muck, and not genuine political opinions at all. You want to engage me politically, turn off Fox news and read a book. Try some of the more famous stuff by Jefferson, Paine or Franklin to start, then look for more works by men who truly were subversives in their own day and who knew the cost and penalty of political activism.

Actually, I just find people with ill-defined racist beliefs fascinating, and I can't help picking at them like scabs. That part of your ranting is interesting to me, whether it's the stuff about rude Mexicans who "refuse" to learn English or your flawed Korean neighbors, etc. Just interesting.

Incidentally, re: your mexican stubborn shopkeepers-- there is a very real statistical pattern in immigration and the assimilation of a new language. It is often referred to as "third generation turnaround" and essentially dictates that in an overwhelming majority of cases, first generation immigrants learn very little of the new language, their children learn both the mother tongue and the new host language but almost always prefer to speak the new tongue in public, and by the third generation: the grandchildren, the original tongue is obsolete and almost forgotten. This trend continues even today. So rest easy; if those damn beaners won't sell you your smokes in English, you can't wait around until their grandkids take over and buy from them.

Well, I guess you told me. Perhaps I should go sit in the corner and cry.

First, I like myself. I like talking about myself. I like my life. I like talking about my life. My parents were kind enough to allow me to be born. Me writing about me is not me squirming.

Second, my opinions are not based on what you or anyone else allows me to have. My opinions are based on my own, real personal experiences. I'm not some person standing on the sidelines spouting in a sanctimonious voice what other people should do even though I've never personally faced their dilemma.

Third, if you had read and thought about what I wrote, you would see that my life is a diverse life. I interact with people of all kinds - not just colors, not just races, not just sexes, not just sizes, not just political beliefs. The people in my life are not one size fits all kinds of folks. Personally, I think refusing to accept the fact and acknowledge that people come in a variety of ways is racist and bigoted. Do you think if you don't say that someone is black no one will notice you are a racist and a bigot? The very fact that you are unable to say it makes you a racist. You obviously think there is something wrong with being non-white. Consider this - when you read a book, a magazine, whatever, unless you are told that the character is African-American, black, Chinese, swarthy, woolen-haired, etc. do you not automatically think that the character is white? You know you do.

Fourth - English is the common language of this land. I shouldn't have to be forced to speak a foreign language in this country. Whether I choose to speak any other languaeg besides English is not the issue. That I am forced to is.

Fifth - I quit smoking two years ago this month. I don't go to the store to buy a pack of smokes.

Sixth - the kids that go to the Korean church behind me are assholes. They threw rocks at my old dog - who was in my yard behind my chain link fence. Because the church people couldn't control their kids, I made them put up a high wooden fence so the kids couldn't harass my dog.

Seventh - I can call Obama a half-black person if I want. It is the truth. I would call him half-white if he looked more white than he does black. Is he no longer the first "black" president? Has that changed? I didn't get the memo if it did.

Eighth - perhaps you should analyze your own racist beliefs. Do you really live in a world where everyone is white?

Ninth - where did I attempt to engage you politically? My original response was a comment regarding TKers still harassing EIers. No matter what sort of chaos is going on in the world, it is a constant that TKers banned from EI will spend infinite energy and time devising methods to get back into EI so they can be banned again. You're the one that went all racist because I wrote "half-black" in describing Obama. You're the one that went all racist because I don't like people trying to force me to speak a foreign language. Sheesh. Shit ass.

Lil, we've probably discussed this a hundred times over the years. I know you believe what you say and I am not questioning your honesty in your belief. However, no matter what you call it, it is still the same thing. What is the choice? The choice is to have an abortion no matter what the reason.
